This precious and somewhat rare golden girl came to us from a family who decided to get their first kitty from someone who turned out to be somewhat unscrupulous. They were told that she was a sweet 15-month old kitten. When they got her home, she was absolutely terrified and they couldn't get near her. After some time they managed to get her into a carrier and to the vet who happened to know us. The family was in over their heads and as much as they wanted to help her they ultimately realized they may not be the best ones for the job. So, we took her into our program. We immediately got her spayed and that was when we found out she was more like 7 years old, had likely had multiple litters of kittens, and had bad teeth. We got her mouth taken care of and got her into a safe foster home with someone more experienced with helping kitties like her who had likely been a breeder who lived in a cage her whole life.
After several weeks of patience and care, she has come to realize that people are not so scary after all. She is starting to understand that now she gets to just be a pet whose only job is to be pampered and adored. She is very affectionate and playful. She will still need a calm quiet home with someone who is patient and understanding of her past, but as you can see from her video, she has come a long way and is just as sweet as can be! She does have boundaries and can get a little overstimulated but her communication is very clear. So, as long as you pay attention and act accordingly in those moments, then all will be well.
