Featured Cat -JERSEY

Jersey is a 3 month old female black and white kitten. She came to our shelter at 6 weeks old when she was the only surviving kitten of her litter, as the others froze to death. She has been raised in a foster home with other cats and dogs and is excellently socialized with both. She loves to romp and play with the other foster kittens in the household, as well as have wrestling matches with the resident foster puppy. She is very cuddly and affectionate and loves to perch on your shoulder and purr loudly in your ear. She is a very sweet girl looking for a warm lap to call her own!

Featured Dog -CASEY!!!

Casey is a beautiful Golden Lab female. She came from an abusive situation in a Northern community but has left her troubled past behind her and is looking for a brand new start. Casey is great with other dogs. She is good with kids. She loves to go on off leash walks with up to 25 other dogs and does excellent. She MUST NOT go to a home with cats. She has shown to be a fence climber, mostly using the dog houses for a boost to jump over the fence, so should go to a home with a wooden fence, or with nothing nearby for her to climb.

PLEASE NOTE: We have been having technical issues and have not been receiving adoption applications. If you fill out an application please follow up with a phone call or email to verify it has been received.

NOTE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN-ADOPTERS: MLDHS is a volunteer run operation - on occasion we MAY be able to provide transportation of a pet towards North Battleford, Saskatoon and sometimes towards Edmonton or Regina but ONLY if we have a volunteer making a trip out of town. If transportation should be available for your pet - fuel costs will be charged accordingly. Please check with us once your application is approved to see if transportation may be available at that time. Please remember that it is the responsibility of the adopter not MLDHS to arrange for transportation of the pet. We will certainly try to accommodate should a volunteer be making a trip your direction, but we cannot guarantee a ride will be available at any time. Thank you! Please also send an email after you fill out the application to verify that it was received. Thanks!

Adopting a Friend If you are interested in adopting any of our animals please fill out an application. Once your application is received and reviewed you will be contacted by email. This process may take a few days so please be patient!

All animals old enough and ready for adoption by the MLDHS will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. If the animal is not old enough for altering, you are to bring it back to the Vet Clinic of OUR CHOICE by the date noted on the Adoption Contract for the procedure. The cost of this procedure to the society is included in the adoption fees. Vaccinations: Animals may have already received their first shots and Rabies Vaccination. If they have not received their booster, you are responsible for ensuring that they receive it, along with a rabies immunization if they were too young to receive it while in our care. As well all dogs and puppies will be microchipped - this cost is also included in our adoption fees. Cats can be Microchipped for an extra fee of $20.00
Dog Adoption Fee - $160.00 Cat Adoption Fee - $60.00
For animals that have been in the shelter for longer periods of time (6 months, 1 year) the adoption fee will be lowered accordingly. The adoption fee for all animals is as listed above unless otherwise stated on individual animal profiles. Please Note: Puppies & Kittens that are not old enough to be altered prior to adoption require a refundable spay/neuter deposit that will be returned once proof of spay/neuter is provided.
Puppy Deposit - $300 Kitten Deposit - $100

News

MLDHS is on the Radio! Our volunteer Jeff McCallum was interviewed on CBC Radio about using YouTube videos to promote adoption. Visit CBC Website for the interview. You will need to download Real Player to listen.
MLDHS is in need of Foster Homes!! Both Full-time & Part-time! If you are uncertain about adopting a dog and the commitment involved, please consider becoming a weekend foster home! You can take a shelter dog into your home for a weekend to give it the experience of a home environment, lots of attention, and socialization, as well as a much needed break from the shelter! Many great shelter dogs are with us for long periods of time, and while we try to make their stay in the shelter as comfortable as possible, nothing is better than being in a home, even if it's just for a couple of days! If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in doing, please contact MLDHS.

Who We Are

The Meadow Lake & District Humane Society was formed in the summer of 2003. The MLDHS is an animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, unwanted, and abandoned animals. Our other main objective is to spread the spay/neuter message in an effort to prevent overpopulation. All of our income is derived from memberships, donations, adoption fees, and income from doing pound maintenance for the Town of Meadow Lake. Memberships can be purchased - please email us for details.

Donate a Bed

Thanks to the generosity of our community and Kuranda/Petfinder, we now have enough Kuranda beds for all of the dogs in our shelter! These beds have definitely made a difference in the lives of shelter dogs. Kuranda now offers cat beds & cat towers.
