Why Rescue?

"If you consider that we cannot save them all, and what difference does one make, you ought to know the joy of the one who is saved." -Jim Willis

Who We Are

We are a not for profit rescue group that is run by volunteers. We do not have a facility, all of our dogs are fostered in volunteers' homes. We primarily rescue Great Pyrenees in Indiana, and Kentucky based on the availability of foster homes. We do accept Great Pyrenees mixes too, also based on availability If you have a pyr to surrender - We require owner surrendered pyrs be on heart worm preventative or have a recent heartworm test anitgen and have current vaccines A positive heart worm test is not a basis for IGPR to decline taking your dog into rescue. However, knowing the results allows us to more effectively utilize our resources. We will need a completed Intake Survey we will provide and three digital photos of your dog - a head shot, one head and body and one of your choice. Please photograph your dog at eye level, not shooting the photo looking down on them and get them in focus and as close as possible. You can request the Intake Survey by e-mailing us at info@igpr.org

What can money not buy?

The love and guidance you can provide by fostering a great pyrenees.

2 Volunteers Needed

ADOPTION EVENT COORDINATOR We are looking for a volunteer to set up adoption events and coordinate with our foster parents to have adoptable dogs at PetSmart Stores, Festivals and other events we are invited to attend. This would involve coordinating set up with applicable events, e-mailing/phoning fosters to see who can attend and making sure adoption materials and signage are available at the event. Volunteer would not have to attend all the events. FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR We need someone to coordinate our fundraising events, such as dining out at restauraunts on a specific date where a portion of the proceeds are donated to IGPR, developing fundraising ideas, and communicating information about events to the club members and adopters. INTAKE COORDINATOR - Provide surrender forms and intake surveys to shelters and owners unable to keep their dogs. Maintain log of dogs needing rescue, prioritze dogs, and work with rescue to find foster homes for dogs in need.

Fosters Desperately Needed!!!!

The more fosters we have, the more we can save! We understand fostering a dog is a big commitment and may not be the easiest thing to do. It's easy to settle into a daily routine and not want to take on an additional responsibilites. There is an orphaned pyr who very much needs to settle into your routine with you too, to help them find a forever home. By having a foster dog spend time with you, your pets, and family members, it helps us understand what type of home is best suited for each dog, along with their individual habits, quirks and traits that make each one unique, so we can share that information with potential adopters. It also teaches the dog how to properly behave in a household, which will make them more adoptable. By fostering a dog, you provide invaluable care, nurturing, guidance, and structure that cannot be purchased or replicated in any kennel environment. We provide all medical care- you provide the food and love! (Crates available too if needed) We so appreciate those of you who have fostered for us in the past ,and those who are continuing to do so. Please help a homeless pyr by opening your heart and home to them. If you can foster a pyr, we'd love to hear from you! Send us a note with Foster Volunteer in the subject line to info@igpr.org and we will send you a foster application to complete and a foster agreement

Adopting a friend

All adoptable pyrs are spayed or neutered, have received rabies, bordatella and dhlpp vaccines, are heartworm tested, have received heartworm and flea preventative, and are microchipped. We have a standard adoption fee of $300.00 for adults, $350 for pups less than 6 months old, and $200 for dogs over 6 years old. This fee helps defray the cost of our out-of-pocket expenses (with the rising cost of veterinary care) to care for each dog with food, medical expenses, grooming, transport from shelters to foster homes, etc. It also ensures that you adopt a healthy, happy dog. Approval for adoption requires completion of an adoption application, an approved home visit, and vet check, and signing an adoption agreement upon receipt of the dog. An above ground fenced yard is required unless otherwise noted on a dog's posting on petfinder.com. Payment for the dog is due at the time of adoption. We do not allow debarking of any of our adopted dogs. If barking is an issue for you or your neighbors -consider another breed - pyrs were bred to bark! Our adoption agreement also requires you to return the dog to us if you are no longer able to provide a home for the dog. If you have knowledge of someone who may want to adopt your dog, they will need to through the same adoption process you did before receiving your pyr.

Note to adopters:

Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin and Toto don't show up in rescue. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, perfectly behaved dog. We get the leftovers. Dogs that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained," and badly treated. Most Rescue dogs have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent training, or sufficient company. They've lived outside, in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have even given up. But we are Rescue and we don't give up. We never give up on a dog! We know that a dog is a living being, with a spirit and a heart and feelings. Our dogs are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of a sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminster champion. So please, please don't come to rescue in the hopes of getting a "bargain," or indeed of "getting" anything at all. Come to Rescue to give, to love, to save a life -- and to mend your own spirit- a rescued animal will reward you in ways you never thought possible. We can promise you this -- a rescue dog will make you a better person.

NEWS

Events & Fund raisers: It’s Candle Time again - Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue (IGPR) will hold our Fifth Annual Yankee Candle Fundraiser during the month of September. 40% of all proceeds will benefit homeless Great Pyrenees in the state of Indiana. The four previous candle sales have raised over $6,500.00, thanks to all of you who have “peddled” on behalf of IGPR. With today’s economy, fundraising is a challenge. Our advantage in offering Yankee products is their reputation - most people already recognize the name and know their quality. Each candle generates $9.20 for IGPR, and every car jar set generates $2.80. It’s “Pyrconomical” for your customers too – no gas needed to shop and no sales tax! Please contact me for catalogs and order forms. Call Judy MacDonald at (317) 466-1229 or e-mail to pyrs@att.net. You can also pick them up at her house if you’re in the area – 1917 East 75th. Place in Indy (corner of 75th. Place and Evanston, just off Keystone). The fundraising catalog and order forms are also available through the Yankee Candle website (go to the fundraising section) if you would like an advance peek. Deadline for order submittal is Friday, Sept. 30 so everything will arrive before Thanksgiving. Last year we received our orders by Halloween! Order for gifts, for yourself, or get some “payback” for all the candy and cookies you’ve bought and the donations you’ve made to help your neighbors, co-workers and their kids! Every individual order mattersand they all add up to helping many deserving dogs! Thank you in advance for being a Yankee Peddler! All "pyrents" and their pyrs, previous owners of pyrs, and those interested in pyrs, are welcome to attend any of our gatherings.

THE CODY BEAR FUND

In memory of two of our rescues who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Bear, a loving gentle giant, was a four year male who died of bone cancer in the Fall of 2003 , and Cody , a sweet, young male with a congential heart defect who passed away in December 2004. Both crossed the bridge too soon, but had wonderful , devoted and loving owners who adopted them and were with them until the end of their lives. All donations to The Cody Bear fund will go towards providing additional medical treatments for rescued pyrs not covered by our usual adoption fee, such as heart worm treatment., ACL surgeries, entropia, etc. We are a 501(c)3 organization so any donations you'd like to make to Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue are tax deductible and will go towards making sick pyrs healthy and to help homeless pyrs find forever homes. We would welcome and appreciate any donations of any amount to Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue, 1102 W. 78th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260
