Why Rescue?

"If you consider that we cannot save them all, and what difference does one make, you ought to know the joy of the one who is saved." -Jim Willis

Who We Are

Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue assists in the placement and rescue of homeless Great Pyrenees. If you are interested in adopting a rescue pyr, we maintain a wish list. If you have a pyr to surrender - please contact us too. We require owner surrendered pyrs be on heart worm preventative or have a recent heartworm test anitgen (written results must be provided from a licensed veterinarian) and have current vaccines Or, pay a $50 surrender fee to cover these costs. A positive heart worm test is not a basis for IGPR to decline taking your dog into rescue. However, knowing the results allows us to more effectively utilize our resources.

What can money not buy?

The love and guidance you can provide by fostering a great pyrenees.

Fosters Desperately Needed!!!!

We understand fostering a dog is a big commitment and may not be the easiest thing to do. It's easy to settle into a daily routine and not want to take on an additional responsibilites. There is an orphaned pyr who very much needs to settle into your routine with you too, to help them find a forever home. By having a foster dog spend time with you, your pets, and family members, it helps us understand what type of home is best suited for each dog, along with their individual habits, quirks and traits that make each one unique, so we can share that information with potential adopters. It also teaches the dog how to properly behave in a household, which will make them more adoptable. By fostering a dog, you provide invaluable care, nurturing, guidance, and structure that cannot be purchased or replicated in any kennel environment. We provide all medical care- you provide the food and love! (Crates available too if needed) We so appreciate those of you who have fostered for us in the past ,and those who are continuing to do so. Please help a homeless pyr by opening your heart and home to them. We really need foster homes in central Indiana within 30 minutes of Indianapolis. If you can foster a pyr, we'd love to hear from you!

Where we are

We are located on the Northwest side of Indianapolis and cover central Indiana and north Central Kentucky . We are a small rescue who foster orphaned pyrs in our home or foster homes. We we do not have a kennel facility. The foster dogs are exposed to a home environment and live with our four Great Pyreness and three cats when with us, or with their foster's pets when they are placed with them, until a forever home is found. Our space is very limited, therefore we really need foster homes in order to help us re-home more orphaned pyrs! Mailing address: 1102 W. 78th St. Indianapolis, IN 46260 Phone 317-251-3179

Adopting a friend

All adoptable pyrs are spayed or neutered, have received rabies, bordatella and dhlpp vaccines, are heartworm tested, have received heartworm and flea preventative, and are microchipped. We have a standard adoption fee of $300.00. This fee helps defray the cost of our out-of-pocket expenses (with the rising cost of veterinary care) to care for each dog with food, medical expenses, grooming, transport from shelters to foster homes, etc. It also ensures that you adopt a healthy, happy dog. Approval for adoption requires completion of an adoption application, an approved home visit, and vet check, and signing an adoption agreement upon receipt of the dog. An above ground fenced yard is required unless otherwise noted on a dog's posting on petfinder.com. Payment for the dog is due at the time of adoption. We do not allow debarking of any of our adopted dogs. If barking is an issue for you or your neighbors -consider another breed - pyrs were bred to bark! Our adoption agreement also requires you to return the dog to us if you are no longer able to provide a home for the dog. If you have knowledge of someone who may want to adopt your dog, they will need to through the same adoption process you did before receiving your pyr.

Note to adopters:

Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin and Toto don't show up in rescue. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, perfectly behaved dog. We get the leftovers. Dogs that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained," and badly treated. Most Rescue dogs have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent training, or sufficient company. They've lived outside, in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have even given up. But we are Rescue and we don't give up. We never give up on a dog! We know that a dog is a living being, with a spirit and a heart and feelings. Our dogs are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of a sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminster champion. So please, please don't come to rescue in the hopes of getting a "bargain," or indeed of "getting" anything at all. Come to Rescue to give, to love, to save a life -- and to mend your own spirit- a rescued animal will reward you in ways you never thought possible. We can promise you this -- a rescue dog will make you a better person.

NEWS

NEXT EVENT: Watch this space for info on our next event! Any suggestions for pyr events welcome! If you are interested in joining the Indy Great Pyrenees Club, contact us for information. We've done fun events with our pyrs like dinner at an Italian restaurant, a walk around Zionsville and brunch, a boat ride on Eagle Creek Reservoir followed by ice cream at Ritters, and a sniff date at a dog park, and a Luau. We also have a weenie roast and hay ride and a visit with a pet communicator each Fall. All "pyrents" and their pyrs, previous owners of pyrs, and those interested in pyrs, are welcome to attend any of our gatherings.

THE CODY BEAR FUND

In memory of two of our rescues who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Bear, a loving gentle giant, was a four year male who died of bone cancer in the Fall of 2003 , and Cody , a sweet, young male with a congential heart defect who passed away in December 2004. Both crossed the bridge too soon, but had wonderful , devoted and loving owners who adopted them and were with them until the end of their lives. All donations to The Cody Bear fund will go towards providing additional medical treatments for rescued pyrs not covered by our usual adoption fee, such as heart worm treatment., ACL surgeries, entropia, etc. We are a 501(c)3 organization so any donations you'd like to make to Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue are tax deductible and will go towards making sick pyrs healthy and to help homeless pyrs find forever homes. We would welcome and appreciate any donations of any amount to Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue, 1102 W. 78th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260 or use the link below to donate by credit card or PayPal.
