OUR PET LIST

Belinda

Here I sit-just waiting on you! My name is Belinda, and I am a wonderful tabby youngster looking for a home. I arrived here without too much information-I am about a year old and a true sweetheart, that much is obvious! Very friendly and affectionate, I am adapting to the other felines but needed no time at all to turn on the charm with the people here. Please call and ask about me by name at 321-259-0601. Or you can stop by and meet me, noon to 4PM Mon through Saturday and noon to 3:00 on Sunday.

A Big Thank You!

We would like to thank Viera High School student Kathryn Munzenmayer for her fundraising efforts! Katie is collecting cat food and supplies for the Humane Society of South Brevard; she has printed and placed postcards asking for donations on bulletin boards throughout the Melbourne area and is contacting local businesses asking them to participate. Additionally, Katie created and built a "Hello Kitty" scarecrow for a fall festival charity fundraising contest. The Hello Kitty scarecrow featured some of the cats and kittens available for adoption at the Humane Society of South Brevard. The publicity this display attracted is just the kind of attention that we need to get the word out that there are many homeless pets in need of families in our area. Katie's efforts are appreciated by all here at the Cat House!
All the paws say "meow and thank you"!

THE HAPPY TAIL OF SARGE THE STUD

Attention! O.K., at ease...which is where I finally am after a lifetime of hardship. My name is Sargent, but you can call me Sarge. I am a true success story in rescue if ever there was one! I was left in a little cage out in front of the Humane Society of South Brevard. I was an older guy and never neutered, so we thought I might have been used as a stud cat. When I starting walking around inside the Cat House it was confirmed; I had always been kept confined in my previous life with a breeder so my hind legs never developed and are permanently bent. I have an awkward gait and at first it was all I could do to try and run away from the nice people here. I had never been being shown love and it took me quite a while before I decided I really like getting attention from people! Then I got really lucky; someone came by and fell in love! I got the home of my dreams and have the run of the house-truly the Sargent of my home and my family's heart!

FOOD DONATIONS

We are in need of cannned cat food. Any kind or amount is very welcome and appreciated. Remember it is all tax deductible.

BOARD MEETINGS:

The next board meeting will be on posted as soon as available at the Fee Avenue Library at 6:00pm <3>

UPCOMING EVENTS

After much searching we have not found a storefront for a thrift store and with the high rents and all the extras we have decided to put the store on our own property. We have a cottage on the grounds and were fixing it up to rent but have changed our minds and will put the store there instead. We are working on it at this time to set it up. Thanks for your patience. We think it will be worth it. We also need a display case, cash register and a counter (or supplies to build one)..As always we are accepting donations 7 days a week at the shelter and remember they are tax deductible.

WHO WE ARE

The Humane Society of South Brevard is an independently-run, non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. We DO NOT euthanize ANY animal unless their quality of life would suffer due to major medical problems. Our cats are free to roam inside our facility. We always strive to provide individual attention to all of our animals until they can be placed in caring, loving, lifetime homes. We have provided this service since 1978. In the unlikely event you find the pet you have adopted does not quite fit into your family, we will always take our cats back.
We take in cats on a pre-arranged basis only. Since we are a no kill shelter we do not "make room" for new cats. As we adopt and have space available we take in more.

BEQUESTS

We DO NOT receive any federal, state or county funding. With only several hundred members, dues do not come close to covering what we spend on the animals. Fortunately, several members have left bequests to our Society and this has enabled us to continue our great work. Please remember the animals when you prepare your will. There are organizations with similar names, so please be specific in naming the Humane Society of South Brevard, Inc. Remember, we depend solely on your kindness.

BECOME A MEMBER!

SPECIAL NOTES

Although there are many good animal care groups in Brevard County, and we support any and all sincere efforts to care for unwanted, abused and neglected animals, we want you to know there are differences. If you have any questions about our policies or mission, please contact us with your questions. We will be more than happy to answer them for you. Call us at 321-259-0601.

ADOPTING A FRIEND

We currently have many wonderful cats available for adoption. The fee is $75.00. This fee includes feline leukemia and FIV tests, microchip, spaying or neutering, rabies and feline distemper vaccines, and deworming. WE DO NOT adopt to homes that declaw or let their cats outside. It is against the law in Brevard Co. for your cat to run loose and of course there are many dangerous things they can get into ourdoors. .

FOSTER PROGRAM

We also have a foster program to help with our unadoptable cats, for a small fee of $5.00 per month we will send you a picture and bio of the cat of your choice and of course you can come and visit anytime. This helps defray the cost of caring for these cats that will spend their lives with us. For more information please call 321-259-0601 HOW YOU CAN HELP Ther are many ways you can help our organization. Here's how.

There is a new search engine besides Google and Yahoo called Goodsearch. At www.goodsearch.com If you use that instead of the others and select us we will get a donation from them at the end of the year. There is also a website called zootoo.com/makeover If you log on and pick out our shelter and follow the steps we get points towards a shelter makeover.
