Pet of the Month
Our pet of the month: Rusty
People aren't the only victims when homes are lost: Rusty is a victim of that too! Rusty has been with a family who loved him for most of his life and when the family had to move to an apartment Rusty had to find a new home too. Rusty is a sweet dog who has been brought up around kids and loves and watches over the children in his care. Though Rusty could benefit from some obedience training, he responds well to positive reinforcement and learns quickly under loving guidance. Rusty is a 5 year old Shepherd mix with a beautiful face and lustrous coat. Could he be the missing family member you have been waiting for?
If Rusty sounds like the dog for you, please fill out an on-line statement of interest form
here.
You are also invited to bring your family to meet some AHS foster animals at our monthly Adopt-a-thons held the second Sunday of every month except December from Noon to 4 pm at Ruff Day Doggie Daycare, 2123 Lincoln Street in Bellingham. Call 360-527-0683 for directions.
Who We Are
The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization registered with the State of Washington. We are an all volunteer animal welfare organization. We raise money to help people pay to spay and neuter their dogs and cats, and we operate a foster home network for dogs.
We have no shelter, no office, and no paid staff. We are supported solely by donations from the public, from businesses, and occasionally by grants. Your support and/or donation will help us continue our work to to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats in our community and find loving guardians for homeless dogs.
Mission Statement:
The current mission of the Alternative Humane Society is to reduce the number of healthy pets euthanized in our community. We offer spay/neuter assistance to anyone who needs it and advocate for the humane treatment of animals through our adoption programs and education. This year we will change our mission statement to reflect our goal of ending the euthansia of healthy animals in our lifetime.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in kowing more about adopting one of our pets, fill out an on-line statement of interest form
here. You may fill out this form for a specific animal or for any animal now or in the future that might be a good match with your family. These forms are reviewed by volunteer adoption counselors. If you appear to be a good candidate for an adoption match, you will be contacted for a telephone intereview. We do not do same-day adoptions. The statement of interest form and a telephone interview are required before an adoption can take place. We do adopt to Canadians.
The minimum adoption donation is $120.00, with puppies being more. Included are the first vaccines (no rabies vaccine for most puppies under 4 months), spay/neuter, defleaing, deworming, and micro-chipping.
