If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, the first step is to fill out a Statement of Interest form

Pet of the Month
Our pet of the month is Lucy Lucy is the sweetest little pup, full of wiggles and kisses. She loves nothing better than to sit beside you on the couch with her head in your lap getting belly rubs. She is 7 months old and about 35 pounds, a very petite little girl! Lucy had surgery and a pin in her back leg when she was a couple months old and is still building the strength in that leg. She loves to go for walks, but would not be the best candidate for long runs or a biking companion. Lucy loves to play with other dogs at the dog park but would love to have all the attention in her new home, unless she was to go to a home where an older dog would tell her no. If you want a constant canine companion, this is the dog for you!
If Lucy sounds like the dog for you, please fill out an on-line statement of interest form
here.
You are also invited to bring your family to meet some AHS foster animals at our monthly Adopt-a-thons held the second Sunday of every month except December from 11am to 2 pm at Ruff Day Doggie Daycare, 2123 Lincoln Street in Bellingham. Call 360-527-0683 for directions.
Who We Are
The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization registered with the State of Washington. We are an all volunteer animal welfare organization. We raise money to help people pay to spay and neuter their dogs and cats, and we operate a foster home network for dogs.
We have no shelter, no office, and no paid staff. We are supported solely by donations from the public, from businesses, and occasionally by grants. Your support and/or donation will help us continue our work to to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats in our community and find loving guardians for homeless dogs.
Mission Statement:
The Alternative Humane Society (AHS) practices a no kill philosophy. Our goal is to help Whatcom County become a community where no healthy animals are euthanized. We work to prevent unwanted dog and cat births through spay/neuter assistance, to cultivate respect and awareness for the needs of animals through education, and to advocate for the humane treatment of cats and dogs in all areas of life. With humane education at their core, our programs include Spay/Neuter Assistance, Dog Foster and Adoption, and Community Cats Information and Referral.
