Who We Are
The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization registered with the State of Washington. We raise money to help people pay to spay and neuter their dogs and cats, we operate a foster home network for dogs, and we educate our community about the humane treatment of animals.
We receive no local, state, or federal financial support—we are supported solely by donations from the public, from businesses, and occasionally from grants. Your support and/or donation will help us continue our work to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats in our community and find loving guardians for homeless dogs. AHS has no office, no central shelter, and no paid staff.
The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats and helping them find and stay in permanent loving homes.
Our goals are:
-To make Whatcom County a community where no healthy animals are euthanized
-To prevent unwanted dog and cat births through spay and neuter assistance
-To cultivate respect and awareness for the needs of animals through education
-To advocate for the humane treatment of dogs and cats in all areas of life.
