Would you like to adopt from our shelter?

If you find a pet you are interested in on the web, you will need to visit our shelter before we can schedule an adoption appointment. We will note your interest in the pet record if you contact us by phone, but the first person to actually visit the pet will have the first option to set an appointment.

Who We Are

Salt Lake County Animal Services is a government agency whose purpose is to provide consistent, reliable, and professional solutions for animal-related problems, which encourage responsible attitudes and allow people and animals to co-exist in a safer environment. SLCAS isn't just trying to find homes for stray animals; we want the "right" home--a home where an animal will find care and love to last a lifetime. In order to provide the best homes possible for the animals in our shelter, we have set up some guidelines.

Adopting a Friend

Landlord approval is required and must be verified before we will place animals and, you must be 18 years of age or older to adopt from our shelter. All animals adopted from us are sterilized before going to their new home. In most cases, sterilization of the pet will be accomplished the day after the adoption interview. Prices are $95 for dogs and $65 for cats. The price includes spay or neuter, microchip, health exam, a distemper combo vaccination, collar, ID tag and leash (dogs), or carrier (cats). We also place other animals and their fee is based on the current market value. The prices for all exotics such as birds, snakes, tortoises, etc. are based on the current local market price (determined by a phone canvas of local pet stores) less 25%.

Volunteering and Donations

Those interested in volunteering may contact Michelle Walk -- mwalk@slco.org-- or call her at 269-7409. Donations are always welcome and can be directed for use in a variety of program areas.
