Adopting A Friend

So you've been thinking about adopting a pit bull?

Congratulations!,

Although h
aving a pit bull type dog is not for everybody. Unfortunately, breed discrimination is common; you need to stay positive and educate people when they criticize your companion. Renters struggle with finding pit bull friendly housing and some home insurance carriers won't cover them. Because we know how challenging it can be to navigate people's biases and misconceptions, we ask that you fulfill these requirements in order to adopt one of our dogs:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Be local to the Philadelphia, NJ, or surrounding areas or be willing to drive!  We do not ship dogs, so as long as you can get here by vehicle, you are eligible to adopt from any state.
  • Fill Out an ApplicationImpress us!
  • Show Solid References.  This includes your current veterinarian and non-relatives who can vouch for you.
  • Must Own or Have Landlord Approval.  Yes, we check!
  • Agree to a Home Visit.  We need to make sure your house is suitable for a dog.
  • Household Agreement.  Everyone needs to be on board for the adoption. Yes, we ask them.
  • Pay an Adoption Donation Fee.  $225-250 for dogs over 1 year of age, $250 for dogs 17 weeks to 1 year, and $300 for pups under 17 weeks old.
  • Sign a Legally Binding Adoption Contract.

PLEASE NOTE:  We prefer to do opposite-sex placements when possible.

Apartments/Townhouses are fine!

What is BRPBR's adoption process like?

Fill out our adoption application on our website (www.bellareedpbr.com/adoption) and email it back to bellareedpitbullrescue@aol.com. You will hear from us via email or phone once we receive and process it. This can take a few days, so be patient!  Once the application is processed and approved, we will need to schedule a home check. If all goes well with the home check, you will be eligible to meet the dog(s) you are interested in adopting.  We will need to schedule a meet-and-greet with other dogs in the home on neutral ground (a park, a field, etc).  All household members MUST be present during the meeting.  If you decide to adopt, an adoption date will be scheduled to meet with a BRPBR volunteer to sign the legally binding adoption contract. At this time you will provide us with your non-refundable adoption/donation fee and we will provide you with your new companion!

If for ANY reason you can no longer keep your BRPBR adopted dog, you MUST contact us and we will take him/her back into our program. Adoption fees are NON-REFUNDABLE!

Thank you for making your next family member a pit bull!

Who We Are

Bella-Reed Pitbull Rescue (BRPBR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit pit bull rescue organization located in Southeastern, Pennsylvania.  We are a small network of hardworking volunteers and foster homes dedicated to advocating for the most misunderstood breed in the world:  The American Pit Bull Terrier.  We are completely devoted to the positive promotion of the pit bull.  While we work mainly out of the Philadelphia area, we network with rescue groups and other informative groups all over the world.

Come Visit Us

We do not have a brick and mortar location, AKA a kennel or a shelter.  We rely solely on our foster homes to provide the love and care our dogs need until they find their forever home.  If you are interested in fostering, please visit our "Foster" tab on our website at www.bellareedpbr.com/foster or send us an email for a foster application at:  bellareedpitbullrescue@aol.com.
