Who We Are

The Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma (PAWS-OK) is a non-profit animal rescue organization focused on finding homeless and abandoned cats new loving homes with responsible owners. Most of our cats are relinquished to us by their owners who are unable to continue to care for their pets or who find themselves the caretaker of a neighborhood cat and / or kittens. All of the cats in our program are spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, fully vaccinated, fostered in a home setting and checked by a veterinarian before adoption.

We are a small group who's goal is to match responsible owners with the right pet. When our own rescued cats don't fit an adopters specific need we will provide potential adopters with information on the pets available at other local rescues and animal welfare organizations. We are also happy to lend our expertise and resources to anyone who is looking for a specific type of pet (breed of dog or possibly de-clawed kittie) or looking to rehome their own pet or a stray that they have found. In some instances we can take the pet (especially a cat) if we have room or in most cases we simply guide the owner with responsible adoption placement and advertising tips.

We also seek to educate others on the current Oklahoma animal welfare laws and urge them to become involved in talking to their elected officials and influencing them to support animal friendly legislation.

And of course, we support all the spay and neuter efforts of our counterparts and other organizations. We understand that the greatest impact to our city's pet overpopulation issue and the resulting alarmingly high number of euthansias at our local shelters will be through spay and neuter programs.

PAWS-OK is a non-for-profit 501 (c) (3) designated organization and does not receive any public funding. Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. All the dollars we spend on running our organization are recieved as adoption fees, donations or are raised by our volunteers. Ongoing fund raising activities include aluminum can redemption, Purina Weight Circle collection and used cell phone collections. Specific events that raise funds for PAWS-OK include the annual Garage Sale and Macy's Shop for a Cause.

How you can help

We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our mission.

ADOPTION: We are specifically in need of volunteers to help us on the weekends at Adoption Events at the local PetSmart stores and also volunteers who can volunteer time during the workweek for specific events held in other venues.

FUNDRAISING: We also have opportunities in our fundraising efforts. We do "green" recycling to raise money - aluminum can and cell phone recycling has netted us hundreds of dollars over the past year. Coordinators are needed to organize collection sites and process donations.

NEWSLETTER/WEBSITE: We are also in need of an experienced person to help us with our website here on PetFinder (know HTML?) and help us launch a newsletter out to our adopters and PAWS Friends to keep them informed and involved in our rescue efforts.

ADOPTION CENTER MAINTENANCE: We are also in need of individuals who would like to help us out in our Adoption Center in the Summit Pointe Vet Clinic. We need help cleaning and taking care of our cats and kittens who are available for adoption. There are 8 cages that need cleaning each morning (8:30am) and each afternoon (4:30 pm). Cleaning generally takes 1-2 hours.

If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities, or have other ideas on how you can help, please contact us at pawsok@sbcglobal.net today.

Adopting a friend

Adopting a new pet for your home is a big decision and should not be entered into without proper consideration of your lifestyle and the needs of the pet. We are open to all lifestyles and believe responsible pet owners are a very diverse group of people.

If you are interested in any of the pets you see listed here on PetFinder please reach out for the contact listed to arrange a meeting with us and the pet or drop by our Adoption Center to talk with us about pet ownership.

If you are looking for a specific pet and you don't see it listed here, please e-mail us at pawsok@sbcglobal.net or call us at 204-3964 and leave us a detailed message and one of our volunteers will get back to you.

Come Visit Us!

We are very fortunate to have on our Board of Directors a very rescue-orientated veterinarian, Dr. Paige Randell who has recently relocated to a brand new state-of-the-art clinic, which she designed and built.

The Summit Pointe Vet Clinic is located at 9101 S. Western Ave (one mile south of 240 across from Hobby Lobby in the Summit Pointe Plaza) contains the PAWS-OK Adoption Center for our rescued cats. The clinic and Adoption Center is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturdays 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Please drop by and see some of our available kitties there any time during normal business hours or stop in and check out our Adoption Book, for information on other dogs and cats available for adoption in the OKC area.
