Valentine's Day Special! Choose your Valentine cat or dog! Adult dogs - $20; Adult cats - $10 Special pricing good through February 29th. Puppies and kittens available at normal adoption pricing. All adoption fees include spay/neuter, vaccinations, one month pet insurance, and one bag of food.
Gift Certificates Available! If you have a friend or family member considering adopting a pet, consider giving them a gift certificate! This will allow them to find their newest family member and give a homeless pet a home! Contact the Shelter directly for more information, or stop by to purchase one!

Shelter animals are special and the care we dedicate to their upcoming adoptions makes them even more special; each of our animals receives individual care from our dedicated staff and volunteers. We often have adoption promotions that offer reduced adoption fees. Additionally, many of our animals have "Angel Sponsorships". These are private donations made by our volunteers and other animals lovers that are applied toward the adoption fee of specific animals, effectively reducing the adoption fee. Check out our News section, or call the Shelter (575-758-2981) to see if any specials are being offered.
Our Adoption Application forms can be found at the Shelter website, www.strayhearts.org, under Adopt An Animal, or you may stop by the Shelter to fill one out. Either way, we look forward to hearing from you!
Founded and incorporated in 1991, the Humane Society of Taos, Inc., dba Stray Hearts Animal Shelter, is a 501c3 non-profit organization wholly dedicated to the interim compassionate and humane care and rehabilitation for lost and abandoned animals, upholding their rights for such, portecting animals from abuse and neglect and exploitation, and placing them into responsible and loving homes. We are committed to animal population control and public education to ensure long-term positive management of animal populations in our area.
Stray Hearts Animal Shelter of Taos provides humane care and shelter for abandoned and abused companion animals in the Taos area. All animals leaving the Stray Hearts Animal Shelter have complete immunizations, are spayed/neutered or scheduled for alteration, and may be microchipped at the new owner's request. Stray Hearts also provides educational programs to volunteers, schools and the community at large, and participates with both the Town and County in the development of animal control and protection ordinances..
Stray Hearts continues to grow and improve with the help of the community. Every day brings new challenges to the companion animals of Taos and we plan to be here with you, our supporters to help them along. What you do matters deeply to the animals we serve.
