Our Featured Pets...

Our featured cats are LOLA and HUCK. LOLA is a female cat born in about 2008. She came into the shelter with her two kittens. She is a gorgeous calico/tabby mix with part of one of her ears missing most likely from frostbite & living on the streets. She was rescued by a very nice family & brought to the shelter with her 2 kittens. Both of her kittens have found a home but LOLA is still waiting to find a forever home. LOLA is a very sweet cat & gets along pretty well with the other cats at the shelter. Please consider adopting an older cat & giving her a second chance. Come out & meet LOLA! You just may fall in love with her.

HUCK is a male cat who came in from the city pound when no one came to claim him. HUCK is about 2 years old and hasn't met a person he doesn't like! He does really well with the other cats & kittens at the shelter & loves people too. He would do just fine with a dog too. HUCK is also very handsome! He is a dark gray tabby with a great personality. HUCK would do great in a home with another cat or by himself! Come out and meet HUCK and all the other cats that we have for adoption!

Our featured dog is Freddie! He came in as an owner surrender and is just about 4 years old. He was a farm dog but really loves being with his people indoors! Freddie is also house trained and has never had an accident at the shelter. He is a bit of a crazy man and has lots of energy to burn off so an active home is a must for this guy! He gets a little snarky with new dogs through the fences so should meet any dogs that will be in his new home just to make sure he will get along well with them! Freddie is a tall, skinny guy just waiting for the right home to come along. Do you think that you could be that home?

WE CAN NOW GET BEDS FOR THE CATS TOO!!! PLEASE DONATE A BED OR A KITTY TOWER FOR OUR FELINE FRIENDS!!! Our dogs and cats love to sleep on Kuranda Pet beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another pet to sleep in comfort, please click here.

News

Monthly meetings are now held the first Monday of the month at Hardee's Restaurant in Jamestown, ND at 7:00pm. Board members, volunteers, animal managers, paid employees and members of the James River Humane Society are encouraged to attend.

Do you have an animal at home you would like to have spayed or neutered? The shelter has a limited supply of coupons for families needing some help with altering their animals. The coupons are $15 off of a spay and $10 off of a neuter. For more information call the shelter or stop out and fill out a "Spay and Neuter application". Keeping in mind that for every one child born in the USA, there are 10 pets born. This means unwanted pets that have to be euthanized. Do your part to control the pet population....."Spay and Neuter".

The James River Humane Society offers the "ResQ pet tracking" Micro-chip service. This can be done on your newly adopted pet or an existing pet. The cost is a $35 donation for this service. Each additional pet is $30. It's a good idea to have this proceedure done, if the pet becomes lost and loses the collar it could be their ticket home as the chip provides vital information to get your pet returned. This proceedure has become a must since the hurricane disaster.

Who We Are

Established in 1985, we are a non-profit, no-kill shelter set up to care for homeless dogs and cats. It is the policy of our shelter to provide humane care and treatment for animals needing protection in the area served by the shelter; to seek to return lost animals to their owners; to seek suitable homes for animals without owners; and to alleviate animal suffering.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption program includes a spay/neuter requirement. Please spay/neuter your pet to make sure they do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem and to ensure a better world for pets and humans.

Dog information: jrhsdogs@hotmail.com

To adopt an animal from our shelter you must fill out an adoption application form. You may fill one out at the shelter or contact the person listed on the animal's site. Adoption fee is $100. All pets are current on shots, spayed/neutered, deworming, have vet check ups, and cats are FeLV tested before adoptions. No animals are permitted to leave the shelter before being spayed/neutered. If a second animal is being adopted, a $25 discount will apply if the second animal is adopted within 30 days. After you have adopted, take your adoption papers into your nearest PETCO. They will give you a savings coupon book with hundreds of dollars in food, supplies and toys.
