FEATURED PET

Sally

Sally – Never claimed as a stray, Sally has grown accustomed to her temporary home at the shelter and with other cats Because Sally is shy, she is too often overlooked which is unfortunate. Playful with the other cats she has made great strides but still needs a home where her guardian will understand that time and patience is what she needs and that she may never become a "lap-cat". Spayed and up-to-date with her vaccinations, we hope someone is out there for her.

SPCA Shelter Opens!

Full Facility Awaits Funding

The SPCA of Hancock County’s new animal shelter opened its doors on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 after months of careful planning, fundraising and construction. The new building is located on 39 acres of land at 141 Bar Harbor Road (next to the Maine Lumberjack Show) and will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

WHO WE ARE

SPCA MISSION The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Hancock County is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting animals. We do this through community education and outreach while providing comfort and care for the animals we shelter until they are placed in responsible and loving homes. OUR RESPONSIBILITY : Protect and provide shelter for the lost, abandoned and relinquished animals. Provide adoption opportunities for all animals under our care. Promote the care and well being of all living creatures through education. Provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals and to encourage kindness toward animals. Educate the public on pet overpopulation and proper animal care. Campaign for all companion animals to be spayed and neutered. Fund a low cost spay/neuter program with the cooperation of local veterinarians. The SPCA can accept relinquished animals by appointment only.

ADOPTING A FRIEND

Potential guardians/owners must show that they will properly care for the adopted animal for their lifetime. Anyone interested in adopting from the SPCA must first meet the animal they are interested in adopting and complete an adoption application questionnaire which will then be reviewed by SPCA staff. The SPCA reserves the right to approve or deny any adoption application. All adoption fees assist with the animal care programs of the SPCA.
