Who We Are

The Alachua County Humane Society, Inc. is a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Florida. Our vision is that all animals are respected, valued and treated humanely. Our mission in Alachua County is to prevent cruelty to all animals, advocate responsible animal guardianship, educate the public about animal welfare, implement programs that increase the number of sterilized companion animals and increase adoptions of homeless animals. The ACHS has the following organizational goals: To support animal cruelty investigations To operate and maintain a low-cost spay/neuter program To foster the development of programs for the prevention of cruelty to all animals To advise and aid pet owners in the solution of their pets' problems To develop a better understanding of responsible pet guardianship and the causes of cruelty to animals To cooperate with all public and private agencies and professional groups interested in the welfare of, and the prevention of cruelty to animals To serve locally as a clearinghouse for the gathering and dissemination of information regarding the welfare of animals To arrange for the fostering and adoption of orphan companion animals To solicit and receive funds for the accomplishment of the above goals

Adopting a Friend

The Alachua County Humane Society has cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens for adoption. All our companion animals are examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated for distemper and rabies up to the age of the animal, de-wormed, flea free, and sterilized for a base adoption fee of $100.

We ask that you come in to our office and fall in love with our wonderful pets. When you find an animal that you would like to adopt, you will be asked to fill out an application to start the adoption process. We are looking forward to helping you find your new furry family member. We pride ourselves on our ability to match you and your new pet so that you will have a friend for life. We look foward to meeting you and your family and hope that we can make a match!

Volunteering and Donations

The Alachua County Humane Society is built on its volunteer team. You can be hands on in the Cat Room and Dog Den, or help with Public Relations or in the Thrift Shop. Whether you’d like to foster homeless dogs or help people maintain their bond with their animals as part of our Pet Meals on Wheels program, all of your work goes to help the animals. We appreciate all the help our volunteers provide and consider them an integral part of our team. We are always looking for responsible volunteers who consider their time here at the Humane Society as a commitment to the animals. Once you apply to volunteer, you will receive information on our volunteer programs at our monthly orientation. Our Volunteer Coordinator will ensure you will have the training and knowledge necessary to complete the job you are responsible for. No matter what you volunteer for, you are ultimately helping save an animal’s life!
