"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader, the center of his universe.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. "

**********03-15-08***********After nearly a year, from shelter to rescue to vet...Sammi has finally gone home to her forever home! She is living with her new "Parents", Lee and Rick as well as her new GSP Brother and Sister, Luke and Sara. Everyone is very happy with the arrangement and Sammi will be very much loved for the rest of her life. Rescue misses her...she is a jewel and one of those amazing GSPs who will leave a lasting impression on our hearts. Much love goes to Sammi and her new family. We will post pictures from time to time to chronical and honor Ms. Sammi Sue...forever in our hearts!! Good luck and God Speed, My Little Princess!!
Watch for our newest rescue....coming the week of 6/16/07!!
This pretty little girl (now named Sammie) will soon be here in rescue from a humane society. She has some medical problems with her hips and we will post her info after evaluation by our vet. GSP Rescue thanks the efforts of the HS and their rescue coordinator in giving this sweetie a chance!!
SHE'S HERE! Check out "Sammie"
UPDATE: Sammie had surgery for her badly injured hip. She will have a couple of months of pretty intense physical therapy before we know how much use she will have of her rear leg. She is young and strong and has very good chances for a full recovery! She is really a little angel!!
10-07 Sammie is coming along nicely in her recovery. She still has a long way to go, but is building muscle in her leg and learning to use it more each day!! What a great girl she is!
UPDATE 11-18-07...........Sammie is doing very well. She is using her leg and has finished her regular PT. We are still doing exercises and massage with her daily in order to help her muscles in her upper thigh and hip to keep on improving. She has done extremely well. Sammie has quite a few applications for her adoption and we look forward to completing the adoption process after the beginning of the new year.

******
I adopted your pet today...
The one you left at the pound;
The one you had for ten months/years
And no longer wanted around.
******
I adopted your pet today...
Did you know that s/he's lost weight?
Did you know s/he's scared and depressed
And seems to have lost all faith?
******
I adopted your pet today...
S/He had fleas and a little cold;
Guess you don't care what shape s/he's in
You abandoned her/him I am told.
******
I adopted your pet today...
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies,
Or was there NO reason s/he couldn't stay?
******
I adopted your pet today...
S/He doesn't play or even eat much;
I guess s/he's very sad inside and
It'll take time for her/him to trust.
******
I adopted your pet today...
And here s/he is going to stay;
S/He's found her/his FOREVER home
And a warm bed in which to lay.
******
I adopted your pet today...
And shall give her/him all that s/he will need
- Patience, love, and security,
So s/he can forget your selfish deed.

Who We Are
GSP Rescue Southwest is a non-profit, 501(c)3 rescue committed to helping rescue, rehab and re-home German Shorthaired Pointers. Rescue is reliant upon volunteers for foster care and transport. Local trainers and vets help provide care for behavior modification and health needs.
Adopting a friend
First of all, we want to thank you for contacting German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue. We will do everything we can to assist you in selecting a dog that's right for you. There are certain protocols that you will need to go through in order to adopt a dog through Rescue. First of all, you need to complete an adoption application questionnaire. After you have submitted that application, it will be reviewed. Next, we will need to set up an appointment with you for a home visit. In the home visit, a Rescue representative comes to your home and checks for things like adequate fencing for the dog, where the dog will live, where it will sleep, exercise area, discover how much interaction the dog will have with its new family and general dog-friendliness. (Adequate fencing is at least 5 foot chainlink, 2-3 inch metal or wooden (solid) fencing. Invisible fencing is not adequate because it does not protect the dog from in-coming animals/humans. We also do not generally adopt to families with children under 5 years old. The GSP is a high energy dog and can accidentally run over little ones in their exuberance. This is also a measure to protect the dog from young children who may not be properly supervised and educated in the proper treatment of animals. While we do not discourage hunters from adopting a GSP, there are conditions that apply to those who wish to hunt their dogs. We also will call references as provided by you on the application (i.e., vet, landlord, personal). After the home visit and approval, you get to select your new dog. You can also expect a home visit or email/phone call from us shortly after you've adopted your new canine companion just to make certain that everything is going alright. Our adoption donation is used to help offset the costs of spaying/neutering, routine shots, heartworm check, paying for shelter fees, and any other care/medical treatment the animal may have needed. Transportation is the responsibility of the adopter. In the adoption contract it clearly states that if for any reason you can no longer care for the dog at any time, it must be returned to GSP Rescue and not surrendered into a shelter. Again, transportation is the responsibility of the adopter. We will then re-home the dog and go through our adoption process again. I look forward to working with you in finding your new dog and thank you for opening both your heart and home to a needy GSP!
Come Visit Us!
Because our rescue coordination relies upon volunteer foster homes, there is no shelter/rescue to visit.
