We are always in need of volunteers! You are welcome to visit our facility and to volunteer if you wish. Please come to the shelter to fill our volunteer application and forms. If you have any ideas to improve our shelter please feel free to let us know! Also, come and check out our cat room! It has cat-walks around the ceilings and walls and the cats just love it! Dog walkers will love our shelter. There is lots of open space and plenty of happy dogs.

Who We Are

We are the Animal Control unit on the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton. We have strays and owner relinquished pets for adoption, and you may adopt even if you are not affiliated with the military. The public is welcome! Come on out and adopt a patriotic pet.

Adopting a friend

After walking through our kennels and speaking with a kennel attendant or volunteer about the type of dog or cat that is best suited for your home and lifestyle, please complete an adoption application for the animal you are interested in. All animals are altered (spayed/neutered), vaccinated, and microchiped PRIOR to adoption. Dogs are given baths and/or advantage, heart worm tested and started on a preventative, and vaccinated for rabies/dhlppc/bordatella. Cats are given advantage, feline leukemia tested, and vaccinated for rabies/rccp. The adoption fee is $110 for dogs, and $85 for cats. (Cash or Visa or Mastercard. No checks.) The adoption fee includes a one-year base registration tag for base residents. Please come and see us and our adoptable patriotic pets. The adoption fees are well worth what you're getting.

Come Visit Us!

From San Diego, take I-5 North to the Camp Pendleton off ramp. Go straight until you come to the main gate of the base. After notifying the gate guard of your destination, enter the base and drive straight for approximately 4 to 5 miles, or about 15 minutes. Turn left on Basilone Road, go over the river, and then turn right onto Vado del Rio Avenue. Continue up the hill, and take the first right onto 4th street. The Animal Shelter is the second building on the left. It's best to call and get directions if you're unsure how to get here. 760-725-8120

From the San Luis Rey Gate (the “back gate” on Vandegrift Blvd.) in north central Oceanside: Approach the base gate, and after informing the gate guard of your destination, continue straight ahead to 16th Street. Turn left onto 16th street which will then become Rattle Snake Canyon Road. Continue on Rattle Snake Canyon Road to the bottom of the hill, and then turn left onto Vandegrift Blvd. Continue ahead, past The Ranch House, to Basilone Road and turn right onto Basilone. Continue on Basilone, go over the river, and turn right onto Vado Del Rio Avenue. Continue up the hill to 4th Street. Turn right onto 4th Street, and very shortly you will see a shelter sign on the left. The Animal Shelter is the second building on the left. It's best to call and get directions if you're unsure how to get here. 760-725-8120

From Las Pulgas and San Onofre: If you are coming in from Las Pulgas, go straight and turn right on Basilone Road, then do the following, which are the same directions coming from San Onofre: Head south on Basilone Road going toward the main side area of the base. Once you come to the 25 Area (there will be a sign and you will be in view of the Air Station toward your right), take a left onto Vado Del Rio Avenue. Continue up the hill and take a right onto 4th Street. The Animal Shelter is the second building on the left. It's best to call and get directions if you're unsure how to get here. 760-725-8120
