Who We Are
Welcome to the City of Mobile Animal Shelter!
The Animal Shelter serves the citizens of the City of Mobile. We provide many services which include: The enforcement of the Leash Law, investigation of cruelty to animal cases, administering city dog licenses, and the housing of unwanted animals. We also have a successful adoption program! We are run by the city of Mobile, Alabama. We accept strays and owner turn-ins during our regular hours of operation. We must, by law, keep strays in our facility for five working days after they are brought in. After that time, a decision is made whether the animal will be euthanized, brought up for adoption, or left in the stray room for a while longer. Because of the high number of dogs and cats we receive each week, we are forced to euthanize animals regularly. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate the need for euthanasia. We strive to encourage responsible pet ownership and impress upon future pet owners the importance of having their pets spayed or neutered in order to control pet overpopulation. Please, if you have pets or know someone who does, help us stop the killing by having your own pets sterilized and encouraging others to do the same!
The Animal Shelter provides pick-up service for stray or injured animals. This service also applies to any unowned biting animal. (If a biting animal has an owner, said animal must be impounded, at owner expense, for 10 days at licensed veterinarian for observation.)
IMPORTANT INFO:
All dogs residing within the city limits of Mobile over three months of age are required to be licensed.
A license may be purchased during normal office hours, including 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Proof of current rabies inoculation is required for all license purchases.
The following fees apply to the license:
Unspayed/Unneutered dogs $15.00
Spayed/Neutered dogs $3.00
Senior Citizens (65 or older)
(Proof of age is required)
Unspayed/Unneutered dogs $3.00
Spayed/Neutered dogs $1.50
Yearly licensing begins October 1 and continues through January 31. A late fee of $10 will be applied to the license if it is purchased after January 31.

We are located at 855 Owens Street (which is off Virginia Street). Our kennel is open for adoptions Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30. Come by and visit - your perfect pet may be waiting for you!
