Meet Tonya
Hi, my name is Tonya! Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Curious, Wheel Running Athlete, Easily Startled (Blind)
-Can live with kids: Yes, respectful kids ages 14+. Adults must be my primary caregiver.
-Experienced hamster home: YES - Tonya is blind. This doesn't stop her from living her best hamster life, but it does mean she is easily startled and frightened by being touched and she would benefit from an experienced, patient adopter who is willing to go at her speed.
-Can live with other hamsters?: NO - Syrian hamsters should be housed separately.
-Bite History: N/A
-Additional information: Tonya was abandoned with several other hamsters and is looking for a family where she can get the love and care she deserves. With regular, patient handling Tonya can become more hand-tame, but her adopter will need to be willing to work on socialization. Tonya will need a regularly cleaned, roomy enclosure with lots of fun enrichment. She LOVES running on a wheel and will need one in her new home. Syrian hamsters are large (for hamsters) and many enclosures available at pet stores are not appropriately sized for them. Ideal enclosures aim for a minimum of 24 inches by 12 inches, and at least 12 inches tall, with several inches of bedding for burrowing - a VITAL activity for hamsters. If kept in an aquarium style enclosure, 40 gal minimum is ideal. Bigger is always better!
