Stickers Hedgehog Hedgehog Saint Paul, MN

Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.

Estimated birth date: 7/1/18

Personality: Very shy (you are unable to touch this animal without it running away or being fearful, etc), Responds to his foster’s voice & allows her to pick him up - but he mostly stays curled up even if just sitting on her lap

Favorite treats: Not sure yet - still trying different things

Favorite toys and activities: Wheel & burrowing under fleece blankets

Potty trained: Tried having the litter box in the cage, but he just empties it out and doesn't use it for pottying; it was causing such a mess that we stopped trying for right now

This animal daily routine: His foster usually wakes him up to come out between 8-10 pm and that is when his foster picks up his cage, washes & replaces his wheel, refill food/water, etc. He waits until it is dark and a curtain is over the cage to come out and use his wheel and eat.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): No, Stickers prefers to live alone.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Dog – Stickers is usually curled up into a ball so unsure he has noticed the dog

Health concerns: None

Behavioral concerns: Stickers is in our trust training program for extreme shyness & uncomfortability with humans. His foster continues to work on getting Stickers acclimated to touch, foot baths, "play" time and more. He recently crawled over her hand for the first (and only) time last week and he has licked without biting two times. Stickers does not explore if put into a new/different space such as the play area. He hides under anything he can find and stays in one spot. Recently his foster has been "allowed" to watch him as he eats, but still has not been "allowed" to watch him on his wheel.

Other notes: Stickers is relatively messy, but we are hoping this will improve after his nails are trimmed. Stickers is a big hedgehog and when curled up, he is very prickly and hard to handle without gloves. His foster talks to Stickers a lot & he responds to her voice (even if there are other voices around). He likes to burrow under all the fleece and sleep under a couple layers of fleece, but on the plastic of the DCN tray in the bottom.

Stickers made his way to MNPPR as a transfer from a hoarding case in South Dakota.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Stickers foster parent prefers to meet at the Roseville PetSmart - 2480 Fairview Ave N, Roseville, MN 55113 for meet & greets, & adoptions.
