Sky Guinea Pig Guinea Pig Saint Paul, MN

Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.

Personality: Inquisitive, Friendly toward humans, Friendly toward other animals, Lazy, Chatty, Nervous, Enjoys being held, Sweet

Favorite treats: Oxbow simple rewards timothy treats, baby kale, peppers, red leaf lettuce, carrots

Favorite toys and activities: Chewing on toilet paper rolls, burrowing under a large pile of hay, taking a nap in a really cozy bed.

Potty trained: We’re working on it!

This animal daily routine: Sky gets fresh hay and pellets in the morning, usually along with a quick spot clean. He spends most of the day with his brother in his cage while his foster parents are working. In the evening he is let out of his cage to free roam and explore. After dinner Sky and his brother get a large pile of fresh vegetables, in two separate piles because sometimes Horizon steals veggies from Sky. He also gets fresh hay and a thorough spot clean at this time. All fleece and beds are washed every 2-3 days.

BFF: Sky’s BFF is Horizon!

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Sky doesn’t mind the large dog that lives in the house, and opts to ignore the dog and go about his own business.

Health concerns: None

Behavioral concerns: We’re working on building Sky’s confidence with people. Fast movements and loud noises often frighten him into hiding. We’ve noticed that he is more confident when he is right with his brother. He moves away when you go to pick him up, but is happy to sit on your lap once you’ve picked him up. We have been working on getting him more comfortable with people coming into the room and being in his space. He now happily comes out of hiding whenever someone comes into the room to ask for a treat. We’re working on teaching him that humans are friends by continuing to offer him treats whenever we are in the room with him.

Other notes: Sky is a lot more confident when he can shadow his brother.

Sky & Horizon found their way to MNPPR after their previous owner felt they were not receiving the proper attention required.

Due to our rescue being foster based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Sky’s foster parent prefers to meet at the Eagan PetSmart - 1297 Promenade Pl, Eagan, MN 55121 for meet & greets, & adoptions.
