Meet River
Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.
Estimated birth date: 6/25/2020
Personality: Inquisitive, Friendly toward humans, Lazy, Cuddly, Playful, Energetic, Sweet, Independent
Favorite treats: Popcorn, uncooked pasta, carrots, apples, grapes
Favorite toys and activities: Wrestling with his brother, navigating long, twisty tubes, chewing up and hiding in boxes, snoozing in his hammock, floor time in the play pen
Potty trained: Haven’t tried
This animal daily routine: In the mornings they get a little bit of food and some attention while his foster tidies up their cage around 7:00 AM. In the evenings they get floor time around 6:00 PM along another cage tidy up and a food refresh. They sleep in their hammocks or pipes during the day and are very active at night.
BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): Yes! River is bonded with Babble!
Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: They can see dogs and cats from their enclosure. Initial face to face contact with a dog resulted in a bite to the nose for the dog. Recent interactions have been non-reactive.
Health concerns: None
Behavioral concerns: River has recently graduated from our Trust Training Program! He has a history of needing to learn positive associations with hands and that fingers do not always mean treats. His trust training has consisted of, always announcing yourself before touching, not presenting fingers in a manner that reflects food is being offered, & a little extra snuggle time. Learn more about our trust training methods at https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/trust-training
Other notes: While River was originally in our Trust Training Program, with proper handling and a lot of encouragement he can now be handled much more easily and will come to the door of the cage to greet you. He and his brother Babble make a fun, active pair that enjoy wrestling, playing in boxes, climbing their enclosure walls, exploring tubes, and snuggling up together in their hammock. River enjoys burrowing under the blankets in the playpen and rearranging the fleece in the igloo to push it all outside and into one of the boxes.
River & Babble made their way to MNPPR as a transfer all the way from TN where they were a part of a hoarding case.
Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. River’s foster parent prefers to meet at the Chuck & Don's Pet Food & Supplies, 910 Wildwood Rd, Mahtomedi, MN 55115 for meet & greets, & adoptions.
Our adoption process can be found on our website here: https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process
Fee: River & Babble have a combined adoption fee of $25
