Meet Ren & Derek
What’s better than being OlymPIG stars? Having a furever home to bring the gold home to?
Ren and Derek have returned to the rescue through no fault of their own. They are spirited guys who have a passion for all edible things!
Their background- REN, at just 2.5 years old, has experienced more upheaval than any pig should. Initially purchased from a pet store, he was then surrendered to a shelter where he was mistakenly advertised as female. After being adopted to join two female cage mates, he fathered seven offspring. He and his six sons were surrendered to us in the summer of 2022. Struggling to bond, we decided to let him be adopted solo. However, a month later, he was returned for "wheeking throughout the night" in a studio apartment, likely due to piggy FOMO (fear of missing out); he couldn't understand why his human was nearby but not interacting with him. Returning to us during a large intake in November 2022, he had many potential companions to choose from. He eventually bonded with a newborn named DEREK, who had been born under our care. They were adopted together, but regrettably, after 1.5 years, they were returned by their family who claimed to have developed severe allergies and could no longer care for them.…
In such a brief period of their lives, they've experienced so much. They truly deserve the best (just like all the little piggies)! They enjoy rummaging through their hay and investigating stacking cups. A wheeking contest at veggie time is a favorite activity of theirs! Their foster family is in the process of teaching them to be comfortable with being picked up; they're incredibly quick, but once held, they settle down nicely.
