Meet Nancy Drew, & Amelia Bedelia

Hi, we're the storybook rats! Here is what would work best for us in our new home:

-Personality: Curious, Active, Adventurous

-Can live with kids: Yes, we can be handled by adopters 16+ who already have rat experience. Adults should be my primary caretaker. **WE ARE NOT A GOOD MATCH FOR CHILDREN**

-Experienced rat home: Rat experience preferred. We can be nippy when approached incorrectly.

-Can live with other rats: Yes! We are required to go home in groups of 2 or more. Rats are highly social and can generally adapt to living with an existing colony under the guidance of an experienced adopter. This process needs to be slow and structured to avoid conflict and should not be attempted without education on introductions. If considering adding these girls to your existing colony, please remember they should only live with other females or with neutered male rats.

-Litter box trained: Nope, but rats can be trained to use litter pans.

-Bite History: MAY NIP FINGERS if we think you have food, especially if you're poking them through the bars. This is not enjoyable, but is not aggressive and does not break skin. Amelia has the strongest reaction to hands in her cage and may bite. All rats will do best being handled by individuals with rat experience or those who have done their research about the hand-taming process.

-Additional information: Nancy, Amelia and their sisters were left in the overnight surrender drop-off without any information. These sweet girls are ready to be someone's favorite pets! They will need a nice roomy (minimum 2 cubic feet of space *per rat*) cage (NOT a tank) with multiple levels and lots of enrichment. Their diet should consist of free access to a high quality pellet food (like Oxbow essentials) and a small amount of species appropriate fruit/veggies daily. If you are interested in adopting two or more of these lovely ladies, please submit an application to begin the process.
