Meet Peppa's Family
In early January I rescued three guinea pigs from an unfortunate emergency situation. When I arrived home, I immediately separated the intact male from the two females. The initial veterinary exam confirmed that at least one female was pregnant. Sure enough, at the end of January, one of the females gave birth to four lively pups. I had rescued seven guinea pigs.

The male, Truffle (daddy), was neutered in January. The other female, Shasta, apparently had not been impressed by his charms, was not pregnant, and was spayed in late February. Peppa (mom) was spayed in early March. The babies are all males and are much too young to be neutered.
We don’t recommend that guinea pigs live alone, so please consider adopting at least two. When I rescued them, the three adults were living together in one cage, so any combination of those two or three should get along. The four boys live snuggled together and will be happiest with a brother. Having said that, I have seen it all. I am willing to work with adopters to ensure that they end up with a compatible combination.
The adoption fee of $50 each is a fraction of the cost of spay/neutering. We encourage an additional tax-deductible donation to help cover this cost. The babies are too young to be neutered, but should be large enough at about six months. Because these baby guinea pigs are in rescue because their parents were not neutered, in addition to the adoption fee, we take a $100 deposit for each baby, refundable with proof of neutering within one year of their adoption date. Note that Amanito’s adoption fee is discounted.
UPDATE April 17
Truffle (dad) and Shasta (auntie) have been adopted! Peppa (mom) has a pending adoption. Little Amanito has a pending adoption. Every one of them gone to experienced guinea pig homes that already had one or two guinea pigs (or more!) That leaves just three little boys who need homes!
