Meet Penne

Estimated birth date: 6/1/2019

Personality: Inquisitive, Friendly toward humans, Friendly toward other animals, Chatty, Playful, Energetic, Sweet

Favorite treats: Oxbow Hay biscuits, bell peppers

Favorite toys and activities: Knocking the objects in her cage around, burrowing under the fleece

Potty trained: We're working on it!

This animal's daily routine: Penne greets her foster parents every morning with happy wheeks, knowing that a breakfast of yummy oxbow pellets is soon to arrive. On weekends, Penne gets time outside her enclosure during the day; on weekdays, her playtime is in the evening. Dinner time comes in the evening with all of her fresh veggies.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): Yes! Penne is bonded to her sisters Mafalda and Gnocchi!

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Cat - indifferent, pretty much ignores the cats whenever they're around

Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? Penne has not been exposed to children in her foster home.

Health concerns: None

Behavioral concerns: None

Other notes: Penne may startle easily, but she also warms up to you quickly! She doesn't mind being bossed around by her sister Mafalda, but she still is going to demand your love and attention (and yummy treats!). We can already tell that Penne is a snuggle bug at heart who just needs a little more time before we truly break her out of her shell.

Penne's foster update on 11/13/23 - I'm continuing to work on general shyness, especially running away when my hand is in the cage, and allowing me to pet her. I have continued to hang out with Penne and her sisters while they're in their cage and out for floor time, greet her by saying hi and her name before entering the room so she knows I'm coming, and have her sniff my hand (in bunny face pose) and take treats from my hand. Penne has been more brave about sniffing my hand and allowing me to very briefly touch her on the tip of her nose. She also has started to say hi back (the 'what's up' head nod) and popcorn when I talk to her and call her name. Penne has been super brave about taking veggies and treats from my hand in the last week. She is becoming more willing to walk into a sleepy sack, which I use to help transport her in and out of her cage. Also, once in my lap, she is able to settle down within five minutes and allow me to pet her on her head and back. After about 10 minutes, she will lay down in my lap (covered with a blanket) and become a real snuggle bug!

Penne, Mafalda, & Gnocchi made their way to MNPPR after their previous home became too busy to provide proper care.
