Meet Minerva

Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.

Estimated birth date: 5/20/2020

Personality: Inquisitive, Playful, Energetic, Nervous, Mouthy (puts mouth on you but does not bite down, usually thinking your fingers are food), Hesitant but not really fearful

Favorite treats: Dried papaya and sunflower seeds

Favorite toys and activities: Rearranging, digging tunnels under the egg carton/cereal box, and logs. Destroying stuffed toilet paper tubes. Not the acrobat that’s Delores is—possibly because Minerva is more skittish and less treat motivated.

Potty trained: Haven’t tried

This animal daily routine: During the day Minerva can be found in one of her many tunnels. In the evening and late at night you’ll see her waiting on one of the perches waiting for her nightly treat!

BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): Yes! Minerva is bonded to Sarah & Delores!

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Her foster’s dog watches her in the bin but she doesn’t seem to notice him.

Health concerns: None

Behavioral concerns: Sarah is in our trust training program for her shy behavior towards humans, while Minerva & Dolores are in our trust training program for mouthy behavior when approached by hands. Learn more about our trust training methods at https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/trust-training Her foster talks quietly, reaching out with treats and allowing her to come to her. Being calm and patient. She’s getting more and more used to her foster and will typically pop up to say hi even if she doesn’t always climb into her hand.

Trust Training Update 3/9/2021 – Minerva shows up for treats and will climb into your hand if you have something for her, but she prefers the safety of her bin with her sisters!

Other notes: She’s nervous and just needs some patience. Delores helps her to be brave! Delores, Sarah, and Minerva are a tightly bonded trio. They spend most of their day hanging out in the intricate tunnels they make. They need a lot of bedding in their bin so that they can work on their tunnels. They like having toilet paper and paper towel tubes to help make their tunnels even more solid. Delores loves hanging from every inch of the bin and Minerva is starting to learn from her that this is fun and safe (even when humans are around). Sarah prefers to run on her wheel late at night when no one is around. During exercise time, they tend to stay close to each other. Delores will take treats directly from your hand, Minerva will if she’s sitting in your hand, but Sarah prefers you leave hers nearby for her to take away to safety.

Minerva, Dolores, & Sarah came to MNPPR after being found outside along with several other mice in a small dirty cage. When their rescuer could no longer afford vet care, they were transferred into our care.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Minerva’s foster parent prefers to meet at the Chuck & Don's Pet Food & Supplies - 14109 Highway 13 S, Ste 109, Savage, MN 55378 or PetSmart - 14290 Plymouth Ave, Burnsville, MN 55337 for meet & greets, & adoptions.

Our adoption process can be found on our website here: https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process

Fee: Sarah, Minerva & Dolores have a combined adoption fee of $11.
