Meet Loot

Estimated birth date: 5/13/2019

Personality: Very shy (you are unable to touch this animal without it running away or being fearful, etc), Inquisitive, Mouthy (puts mouth on you but does not bite down, usually thinking your fingers are food)

Favorite treats: Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats, pretty much every variety of seed, but especially pumpkin and sunflower seeds.

Favorite toys and activities: He likes running through his tunnels and toilet paper rolls, enjoys trying to dig a treat out of a crumpled up piece of paper, running on a freshly cleaned wheel, and digging in his freshly refilled sand pit.

Potty trained: No

This animal daily routine: Loot doesn’t have much of a routine.

BFF: No, this animal prefers to live alone.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Cats looking at him from outside his bin. He's curious but seems mostly indifferent to them.

Health concerns: None

Behavioral concerns: We are working on building up his mousy confidence to explore and learn that hands aren't scary. He is doing really well at taking treats and is slowly building up the courage to approach and sniff his foster’s arm and hands, which she then will use her marker sound, tongue clicks, and give him a treat. He is understanding the clicking noises means good things are on the way! His foster also just talks to him while she watches him do his very important mouse things so he is used to her voice, which he seems to like too.

Loot has allowed us to pick him up while eating treats in gloved hands. While he is biting fingers less and less, his foster still uses gloves when working on handling so that if he does bite, there are no sudden movements to scare him. He has also recently allowed his foster to carry him out of his bin and across the room briefly. He stayed in her hands nomming on his treats!

Other notes: Loot is shy but will readily take treats from you. He is not jumpy anymore as long as you use a soft voice and don't try to reach in directly above him. If you mess up his bedding, he will get real sassy (in the cutest possible way) and have to put each piece of bedding back exactly wear it came from!
A quirky little thing his foster has noticed about Loot is that he likes to stand up on top of a hide and sniff the air while you talk to him (ie; your breath!)

Loot was born in rescue after his mom was transferred from a humane society in WI that was having trouble finding homes for a large group of mice.

Due to our rescue being foster based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Loot’s foster parent prefers to meet at the Lakeville PetSmart - 16001 Elmhurst Ln, Lakeville, MN 55044 for meet & greets, & adoptions.

Our adoption process and fees can be found on our website here: https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process

Fee: Loot's adoption fee is $5, this also includes a free travel carrier!

We absolutely DO NOT SHIP ANIMALS! Please do not ask.
