Meet Jackal
Our adoption process can be found on our website here: www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process
Estimated birth date: 4/1/22
Personality: Friendly toward humans, Friendly toward other animals, & Playful. They are all very inquisitive, smart, energetic, and sweet. Katydid (the all-black one) is the most outgoing.
Favorite treats: They have eaten all the treats offered but timothy hay is a HUGE hit. They get a handful every evening now.
Favorite toys and activities: They all love to run on their wheel. They would benefit from a larger habitat that could accommodate at least 2 wheels if possible. They love to rearrange their home, move boxes, and fluff around. They chew A LOT (like most gerbils) and love getting new things to chew and play with every day. They are very smart and also enjoy chewable puzzle toys. They enjoy running in their exercise pen (made of coroplast.)
Potty trained: Haven't tried
This animal’s daily routine: They get visits for treats and Trust Training (just to get them used to being handled, they are VERY friendly) multiple times a day. They get a handful of timothy hay before their foster goes to bed.
BFF (Does this animal have or need a friend of the same species in their home?): Katydid, Ladybug, & Jackal are a bonded trio and must be adopted together.
Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: They have never interacted with other species while outside of their habitat, but they have been in the same room as dogs, cats, chinchillas, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Usually, they don't notice or care but if an animal is too interested in their habitat, sometimes I hear them thump.
Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? Not while in foster care. We believe they would be just fine with older, respectful children (8+).
Health concerns: No
Behavioral concerns: These gals are ONLY in the trust training program to get them used to being picked up and held. They are extremely friendly and have never been aggressive. So far we are still working on holding our hand in the cage without moving it so they can investigate, and the transport box stage. With time we have no doubt they will get used to and possibly enjoy being held. They sometimes let their foster scritch their little heads with her finger.
Other notes: Katydid, Ladybug, and Jackal are very happy, friendly girls. They love attention and new activities/puzzles/toys. I think they may be good candidates for some trick training, especially Katydid. Although they have the occasional sisterly squabble over a treat, they love each other very much and sleep in an adorable pile in their little house!
Jackal, Katydid, & Ladybug came to MNPPR when their owner was no longer to care for a large number of gerbils.
Due to our rescue being foster based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Their foster parent prefers to meet at the PetSmart, 5640 Cedar Lake Rd, Minneapolis, MN 55416 or Chuck & Don's Pet Food & Supplies, 3244 W Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55416 for meet & greets, & adoptions.
Fee: Jackal, Katydid, & Ladybug have a combined adoption fee of $24
