Hippo Mouse Mouse Saint Paul, MN

Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.

Estimated birth date: 1/21/20

Personality: Inquisitive, Friendly toward humans, Energetic, Mouthy (puts mouth on you but does not bite down, usually thinking your fingers are food), Jumps into your hand to come out of his cage

Favorite treats: Yogies

Favorite toys and activities: Exploring. He likes different places, textures, and areas to explore. He loves to crawl around in blankets. And will happily climb on you and once comfortable will eat in your hand.

Potty trained: No

This animal daily routine: Up around 9am and out for play. Up and out again between 6-8pm.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): No, this animal prefers to live alone.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Dog. Searches for her by sniffs if she's near, once they meet nose to nose he's unimpressed

Health concerns: None

Behavioral concerns: Hippo has recently graduated from our trust training program. He was enrolled to help with his speedy movements & timidness around human. We are still working on handling and social skills. He can nibble when he is ready to be put down at times (he paces and digs before he nibbles). Other notes: Hippo is very food motivated! We will be attempting some tricks for enrichment. Make sure you keep him busy. He loves to play! He doesn't like to be walked around with. He doesn't like a lot of commotion or huddling kids around him immediately. Once he jumps into your hand it's best to walk away from his cage or he just tries to go back in, and doesn't get comfortable.

Hippo was brought to MNPPR as a transfer for biting a staff member.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. HIppo’s foster parent prefers to meet at Maple Grove PetSmart - 11200 Fountains Dr, Maple Grove, MN 55369 for meet & greets, & adoptions.
