Meet Hamlet

Our adoption process can be found on our website here:

Estimated birth date: 11/1/20

Personality: Inquisitive, Friendly toward other animals, Chatty, Energetic, Very curious, but somewhat shy. (Approaches readily for food, but generally doesn't want to be touched)

Favorite treats: Food! So far, Hamlet has loved everything!

Favorite toys and activities: Hamlet loves to taste everything, including bare toes:) He enjoys chew toys and hideys.

Potty trained: Potties mainly in his condo. Some poos on the floor, and has only peed on the floor twice during floor time. He does have a litter box in his condo but also likes to use his favorite hiding spots as bathrooms.

This animal’s daily routine: The foster generally lets him out for floor time both first thing in the morning as well as late afternoon. Offering him small amounts of measured pellets throughout the day, including some during floor time.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a friend of the same species in their home?): Hamlet is in the process of bonding with Rufus.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: A Cat, Hamlet very happily approached the cat upon first meeting and continues to do so. The cat, on the other hand, has yet to let Hamlet get very close before the cat runs.

Health concerns: None that the current foster is aware of! Had a good report from the vet the week of September 19, 2022.

Behavioral concerns: Hamlet is currently in our trust training program for nipping during handling. Due to this, we feel he should be adopted into a home without young children, & feel his adopters should have experience with guinea pigs who are uncomfortable with being handled.

Other notes: Hamlet is super talkative and loves to beg for food! He needs fairly high condo walls because he is very tall, and he stretches as much as he can to the top of the condo walls when he thinks the foster has food in their hand. He does really enjoy tasting everything, so extra GP proofing may be necessary during his floor time to avoid him chewing on things he shouldn't.

Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? Not while in the care of the current foster.

Hamlet came to MNPPR when his family was no longer able to make time for him.

Due to our rescue being foster based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN.
