If you're not saying "Hi" to him, trust me-he's saying "Hi" to you. With his tiny paws pressed against the front of his enclosure, he's always ready to greet his adoring fans (yes, that's you). Snack time? He's there. Head scratches? Absolutely. He's a fearless little explorer with a big personality who may very well think he's in charge. Male guinea pigs need large enclosures with a lot of ground space (10+ square feet) to run around and stay healthy. An easy and inexpensive way to give your guinea pig a DIY palace is called a C&C fleece lined cage (Google it!). Ginny will need unlimited timothy hay to munch on, extra space to run around in, and toys to keep him active and enriched! Healthy greens, veggies, and pellets are also an essential part of his diet, as well as a daily dose of vitamin C! Because they are prey animals, most guinea pigs may be nervous about being picked up. But once a guinea pig builds a relationship with their people, they enjoy snuggling in their adopter's laps for pets! TIP: the way to a guinea pigs heart is through their stomach with treats (did someone say cilantro?!)! They can be big talkers and will express how they are feeling with different sounds - be sure to listen, to get an idea of what they are telling you!
