Eve & Cookie BONDED's Story

Eve is a 6 year old (as of 2025) female chinchilla who came to us from a humane society in South Dakota. Her original owners moved and could no longer keep her. Cookie is a 2 year old (as of 2025) female chinchilla who came to us when her sister died due to an accidental injury. These girls became friends at the rescue and now are looking for a home together!

Eve's original owners noted that she only liked one member of the family, and that she would bark and bite other people. The shelter workers similarly had difficulty handling her. Since arriving at Tiny Whiskers, we have found her to be defensive but not aggressive.

She is fearful, and we suspect that she may have been unintentionally handled in ways that made her scared and uncomfortable. As a result, she will often bark at her foster dad. However, he has been able to pet her and even pick her up. She does not like being physically restrained but is okay with sitting on your hand or shoulder. We believe that all Eve needs is some time, some patience, and a lot of gentle and respectful handling. Once she learns that humans aren't mean and won't force her into scary situations, she will likely be a lot more open to human contact.

Cookie is also a bit nervous, but she will sniff your hand and watch you. She is more likely to jump away if held than Eve is. She can be told apart from Eve due to having fewer ear freckles. She loves running on her wheel and perching up on the ledges. We are working on building her confidence with handling. She is a sweet girl, she just needs patience and time.

Due to their nervous temperaments, these girls would do best in a home where she is only handled by respectful adults or teenagers. We would not recommend a home where younger children may handle her. A chinchilla experienced home would be preferred, or a home experienced with nervous and defensive rodents.

We can meet for adoptions within 1 hour of Minneapolis or Faribault, MN. Potentially further- please inquire and we can discuss!

APPLY HERE: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf-XKeCEMgJ9aEA0CR1Pv9NGcoNcMkY0dw2m3DehyChe4ToVA/viewform?usp=dialog

Tiny Whiskers Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
The first step is to fill out an adoption application. This includes questions about their proposed enclosure for the animal, food, enrichment, and whether they have an exotic vet or not. We review the response and contact them with any questions we have. Once all questions have been answered and approved, we move on to the second step. This involves submitting multiple photos of their enclosure, fully set up for their animal. We inspect the photos and address any concerns we see. Once we can ascertain that the enclosure meets our requirements, we give final approval for adoption. A meet up is arranged for the person to take home their new pet. At the meet up, we have a contact that must be signed by the person (or legal adult) agreeing to take proper care of the animal, not to breed it, and that they will contact us if the animal becomes sick within the first week, or if they are unable to care for the animal any longer.
