Meet Baymax

Baymax is a Brachycephalic Syrian Hamster, estimated to be about 5+ months old who also has Congenital sensorineural deafness, so he cannot hear. Despite having these things stacked against him, he's thriving and is a high energetic little dude who isn't fazed by his disabilities.

Baymax came to the rescue from a petstore where he was identified as a brachycephalic hamster. This is a skull deformity that shortens their face, causing tooth, breathing and eye problems. Some Syrian hamsters do not exhibit all symptoms but Baymax has all 4 of his teeth still but they may break off at a later date due to being brittle. He commonly has eye crust due to the genetic condition. Just a cotton ball and warm water will help keep his eyes clear. Baymax is currently on Wendell's Wonder food from Cheeks n Squeaks that is a wet food formula, made at home. He does not need chew toys since his teeth are not growing due to the damaged roots.

Because of his special needs, he must go to a pet keeper who's had experience with special needs animals or years of hamster keeping. Baymax needs a home without children and ask for him to go to a teen or adult home. Baymax will come with his medical paperwork from the vets upon adoption. His future owner may need to have him seen at an exotic vet for tooth monitoring, trimming or extractions, but his tooth condition has been the same for many months without any change. So please be aware of this before applying.

Baymax is a small little man. He can feel vibrations and will squeak at you due to his deafness, when he senses something is near. Deaf animals are more chatty when they cannot hear what's going on. So don't be alarmed if he's talking to you. His little squeaks are quite adorable. Baymax is also a satin coat hamster, his fur reflects back when you brush it a certain way. He's a very interesting little guy with his bug eye'd look, but he's also a very well mannered hamster. He's hand tame, soft, relaxed and fears nothing. So please be careful when handling him since he cannot hear. Baymax also loves to dig and hide deep in his bedding. We sometimes lose sight of him due to how much he likes to burrow, so we suggest getting colorful bedding or a different color of bedding that isn't white. He's got pretty pink ears with some spots on them and if his adorableness doesn't convince you, his personality will.

Adoption fee $25. Please inquire for him under the ad to start the adoption process. We respond to emails Mon-Friday.
