Meet Bastian
Estimated birth date: 6/16/2020
Personality: Inquisitive, Friendly toward humans, Chatty, Playful, Energetic, Sweet
Favorite treats: Dill, parsley, lettuce, cilantro, carrots, and carrot greens
Favorite toys and activities: Bastian loves his hay basket; he will jump in it and happily munch on his hay. He also loves exploring (he will bravely run right into unfamiliar territory), and he loves running around in his playpen.
Potty trained: Haven’t tried
This animal daily routine: Morning: spot clean cage, fresh hay, pellets, breakfast vegetable. Afternoon: Oxbow Vitamin C tablet, lunch vegetable. Evening: lettuce, fresh hay, spot clean cage, and about an hour of playtime with Falkor in the playpen.
BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): Yes! Bastian is bonded to Falkor!
Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Hedgehog: Bastian was very interested in being her friend!
Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? Bastian has not had any exposure to children.
Health concerns: None
Behavioral concerns: Bastian & Falkor are in our trust training program for shy behavior when being approached by people. Learn more about our trust training methods at https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/trust-training Bastian is a very friendly guinea pig, he just can be a little shy. If you move very slowly and talk to him, he is okay with being picked up. He can be antsy when he is held. With more practice and treats, I have no doubt that he will be able to learn to better tolerate and like being held.
Other notes: Bastian is a sweet, adorable, and very vocal guinea pig. He is the first to greet us in the morning with a series of loud WHEEKS! You can see his ears flop up and down when he does this. He is very enthusiastic and will wheek throughout the day in the hopes of getting more vegetables, or just to say hi.
Bastian & Falkor found their way to MNPPR after their owner was unable to care for a high volume of guinea pigs.
Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Bastian’s foster parent prefers to meet at the Plymouth PetSmart - 4190 Vinewood Ln N, Plymouth, MN 55442 for meet & greets, & adoptions.
Our adoption process can be found on our website here: https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process
Fee: Bastian & Falkor have a combined adoption fee of $40
Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.
We absolutely DO NOT SHIP ANIMALS! Please do not ask.
