Our Mission

Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter will be a passionate advocate that will provide quality care for companion animals in need as we seek their forever homes and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.

Adoption Policy

RABAS strives to find the absolute best fit for the animals under our care, completing background checks, and ensuring that the environment where the animal will be living will offer the best outcome for the animal. While RABAS readily accepts animal surrenders when the animal cannot be cared for accordingly and the appropriate surrender requirements have been met, it is the policy of RABAS to reject an adoption application for any individual, regardless of their affiliation to the shelter, that has surrendered a cat or a dog for a minimum of 24 months from the date of the surrender.

Either the RABAS Board of Directors or the Shelter Manager may consider approving an adoption application in less than the 24 month period for extenuating circumstances only.

The adoption fees: (fees may vary)
Under six months - $300.00
Six months to one year - $250.00
Over one year - $200.00

This includes spay/neuter, rabies vaccination if age-appropriate, heartworm testing if appropriate, deworming, flea/tick medicine, Bordetella and distemper/parvovirus vaccinations. A microchip is also included.

The adoption fee for an adult cat over one year is $100 (tax included) and a kitten under one year is $125(tax included). This includes spay/neuter, distemper vaccination, deworming, FeLV testing and a rabies vaccination if age-appropriate. If the new owner requests, a microchip is included. (An extra fee may be applied.)

Our organization has done its best to evaluate the health and disposition of the pet(s) you are adopting. However, RABAS can only assure you that the pet(s) you are adopting appeared healthy and was/were suitable for adoption at the time of the adoption. It is possible that he or she has been exposed to diseases that may not show symptoms for several weeks, including diseases that could be transmittable to humans.
