Our Mission

Operation Git-Meow provides assistance to the Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to manage the large (estimated 2000) population of feral/community cats. We also assist the residents at the US Naval Station with pet adoptions, veterinary supplies, and other support. Adoptable cats and kittens are adopted both at the base and in the Washington, DC area. We exist to help military families with the financial and other issues related to pet ownership at a remote location such as Guantanamo.

Adoption Policy

Operation Git-Meow has adoptable cats and kittens in the greater Washington, D.C. area rescued both locally and from the US Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. We have an adoption application that can be downloaded at https://operationgitmeow.com/documents and emailed to operationgitmeow@gmail.com to begin the adoption process. Please check the listings for each cat/kitten to see where they are currently being fostered, if they’re part of a bonded pair, or require a pet companion. We charge a $140 adoption fee ($240 for a bonded pair) which pays, in part, for the veterinary care and transport costs required to rescue cats from Cuba. We only adopt out cats/kittens who have been spayed/neutered and who have been tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia. All adoptable cats/kittens will be microchipped and up to date on their shots. We will always take back one of our adopted cats if the adopter can no longer care for them.
