Chesapeake Area Alaskan Malamute Protection

Berryville, VA

Our Mission

Chesapeake Area Alaskan Malamute Protection (CHAAMP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping Alaskan Malamutes in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

CHAAMP provides foster homes, kenneling, training, and vet care for Alaskan Malamutes who have been abandoned, turned into shelters, or are otherwise in need. Our goal is to find and match loving families with our pups, share educational resources, provide positive reward-based training recommendations, and help you find dog professional who follows AVSAB.org recommendations.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering an Alaskan Malamute please complete an application. We ask a lot of questions so we can do our best to match you with a Malamute that will best suit your lifestyle. Think of it as a match-making service.

We are happy to discuss what it means to use positive reinforcement rewards-based training.

"Based on current scientific evidence, AVSAB recommends that only rewards-based training methods are used for all dog training, including the treatment of behavior problems."

Together we can continue learning and growing our relationship with our furry family members.

MULTIPLE DOG HOME:
Please note we require that you bring your current dog(s) with you when you come to meet the CHAAMP adoptables. You will also need a second vehicle to separate your dogs for the drive home. We don't make exceptions to this rule so please be prepared.

CHAAMP follows the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB). They recommend that only reward-based training methods should be used for dog training, including the treatment of behavior problems.

We are a proud member of the Pet Professional Guild. https://petprofessionalguild.com/

There are many ways to train your dog. Yet the only one that results in a healthier, emotionally stronger relationship between you and your pet is through rewards-based training (communication). Training is supposed to be fun for you and your dog.

Rescue dogs need to build their confidence and you can help them. We want our furry companion to trust us and know that they have a choice to collaborate with us. Some need time to come out of their shell and process their feelings. They will appreciate that you are considering their feelings! Soon they learn good things happen when he/she collaborates with you.
