Animalert Pet Adoptions

Our Mission

Animalert was founded in London, Ontario, Canada in 1977 by four animal lovers who wanted to ensure that pets were adopted by caring guardians. We now have about 35 active members, plus our large network of volunteers, which helps us spread the word about our adoption program and to raise funds to offset our operating expenses. We are able to place about 250 cats and dogs a year into responsible, loving homes.

Our work focuses on three main areas:  Adoption, Education, Spaying/Neutering.  When a pet comes into our care, we have a veterinarian assess its health, vaccinate it, and spay or neuter it at the appropriate age. From there, we place homeless pets in foster homes until we can find permanent guardians for them. We also arrange adoptions for guardians who can no longer keep their pets. Once we place a pet in a new home, we make several follow-up calls and we stipulate that, if the placement doesn't work out, the new guardian will return the pet to us.

Adoption Policy

When a pet comes into one of our foster homes, we have our veterinarian assess its health, vaccinate it and spay/neuter it at the appropriate age. We then network, promote & advertise to find permanent guardians for all cats & dogs listed with us.

We also arrange adoptions for guardians who, for a variety of reasons, can no longer keep their pets. These animals may or may not have been recently checked by their veterinarian so we cannot warrant the health of these animals still living with their original guardian. It is recommended that any new adoptive guardian have their veterinarian assess the overall health of the animal that interests them before they make a permanent commitment to adopting the animal.
