Our Mission

We are a 501c3 dog rescue, working in the area of Punta Santiago, Puerto Rico. Our rescue's main mission is to find homes for the many loving stray dogs of Puerto Rico, but we also work closely with the local community to provide low-cost or no-cost spay and neuter, veterinarian services, and other routine care.

Adoption Policy

Thank you so much for your interest in our organization, Punta Santiago Dogs. We are a 100% volunteer based rescue. We take in street dogs from Punta Santiago, Puerto Rico, and network them to fosters and forever homes in the northeast United States.

To apply to foster or adopt one of our dogs, you must fill out an application to foster or adopt electronically (foster application: bit.ly/PSDfoster and adoption application: bit.ly/PSDAdopt). Our application process requires two references, a home visit, and veterinary records for any pet currently residing in your home.

Due to the extremely large volume of applications and inquiries we receive for each dog, only COMPLETE applications will be reviewed. If you do not answer a question or provide incomplete answers to questions (e.g. not providing a full home address, veterinary information when needed, or personal references), your application will not be reviewed. After submitting, we will contact you if we feel that you would be a good match for the dog you have applied for or, if that dog is no longer available, if we feel you would be a good fit for one of our other adoptable dogs.

Our adoption process has FIVE (5) major components. Please review these components carefully so you know what to expect after submitting an application. The completion of this application partially satisfies only component #1 :

1. A fully completed adoption application (below) that will be reviewed by us and if approved, we will request that you send copies of current dogs vaccination/neuter history to move forward
2. A video home visit and brief interview with one of our adoption coordinators
3. A meet and greet with the dog of interest, if available
4. A completed adoption contract and a tax-deductible adoption donation ($450)

***PSD APPROVED LIST*** We endeavor to keep our pet listings (Petfinder, Facebook, etc.) up to date within 48 hours, but if you are not interested in a specific dog and/or the dog you are applying for is no longer available and you would like to join the PSD Approved List please indicate this in the "Any other relevant information" portion of the application. The PSD Approved List is a list of pre-approved (and patient!) adopters that are committed to our cause and would like to join our family of PSD adopters but are waiting for the right dog to come along. If you would like to be added to this list, please let us know and indicate what age/size/breed/sex preference you have, if any.

Thank you for your support and for your interest in adopting a Punta Santiago Dog!
