The Grateful Dog Animal Rescue

Portland, ME

Our Mission

The Grateful Dog Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer dog rescue dedicated to saving the lives of dogs left in high kill shelters, and local surrenders of owners who no longer want their dogs. We mainly pull southern dogs who are at risk for euthanasia. We believe every shelter dog deserves a chance to be Grateful, and though we can't save them all, we do everything we can to make a dent in getting homeless dogs off of the streets and out of the shelter.

Adoption Policy

Please do not message us through Petfinder. Visit our website and click the Contact tab or click this link for an application on the dog you are interested in. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/TGD/Dog

It is our mission to not only save dogs from poor shelter conditions, euthanasia, and homelessness down south, but to make sure that our dogs never have to face that fate again.

We have a careful screening process that consists of reference checks, a veterinary referral, and a home visit ensuring that our furry friends stay in their forever homes for good. Our adoptable dogs are healthy and waiting for their forever homes. Our adoption fee ranges from $400-600 which includes spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, transport costs north, deworming and a microchip.

Adopters must be 22 years of age or older. Application, references and a home visit must be completed to adopt.
