Our Mission

Friends of the Shelter is a non-profit, all-volunteer group of people who are concerned about pet overpopulation and humane treatment of animals. We utilize a foster-based approach to provide temporary shelter to stray, abandoned, and surrendered dogs/puppies for the purpose of finding permanent, suitable homes for them.

Friends works diligently to reduce the population of homeless/unwanted animals by providing financial assistance to our community through a low income spay/neuter program. We provide free spay services to owners of mother dogs with young puppies and placement of the puppies into qualified homes.

Friends provides our community, especially the youth, educational information on early spay/neuter, “don't shop-adopt,” and “unchain your dog” programs and overall care for companion animals.

Adoption Policy

Potential adopters must fill out the online application first, no phone calls accepted until this process is complete.
Adopters must have a fenced in backyard or rural acreage.
We want to make our adoptions as easy as possible, as we want our dogs in homes and not living in kennels, but we also want to make sure our decision on their forever home will be a permanent, loving and safe environment.
Rescue dogs have had disappointments already in their short lives and we want their 2nd chance to be our best choice.
