Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue

Forest Park, IL

Our Mission

Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue (MSIR) is a non-profit, all-volunteer corporation. MSIR seeks out, fosters, and places homeless Shiba Inu dogs into carefully screened, lifelong, and nurturing homes. In addition to rescue, MSIR volunteers provide medical care and/or rehabilitation for foster dogs and then attempt to match them with appropriate, permanent homes. MSIR also educates the public about the Shiba Inu breed, the need for dog rescue and dog training, and the importance of spaying/neutering pets to prevent overpopulation. One of MSIR's goals is to acquire funding to support operations.

Adoption Policy

Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue (MSIR) is based in Chicago and has foster dogs available in various states in the Midwest. MSIR works to match the right dog with the right family by finding out as much as possible about the dog as well as the potential adoptive family before placing a dog. MSIR has a foster to adopt process. During the process, adopters will be asked to complete foster home and volunteer forms, as well as sign an adoption contract. If you successfully complete an obedience course with your rescue Shiba, you will be refunded $25. Obedience training is important to guide your Shiba in becoming the kind of dog you will want beside you forever. Obedience training also helps a new owner bond with a new dog. We can recommend obedience facilities--just ask us! In general, we do not require a fenced yard for all our Shibas. However, some dogs, such as very timid mill dogs, may require a fence and we do have a policy on electric-type fences. We ask that all our dogs be kept on-leash and in a secure environment when outside at all times.
