Our Mission

Congratulations, you have chosen to adopt a dog!

We here at DOXIE & FRIENDS RESCUE are thrilled that you have chosen to go this route. Adoption is an amazing way to save an animal in need and gain a wonderful new addition to your family. We would like to take a moment to review with you the importance of this decision and let you know a little about our process in making sure you end up with the best possible match for you, your family and of course the doggy too!

As a responsible rescue we feel that every dog we save should be vetted and properly assessed before finding their forever home. This can entail weeks and sometimes months of time spent in foster care to really get to know the individual needs of the animal. We want to ensure that our dogs never have to experience the trauma of loosing their families, or ending up on the streets again. That being said, DOXIE & FRIENDS RESCUE also takes the time to properly assess each and every application that we receive. We always conduct home checks as a final part of the application process to ensure our dogs are going into a safe and loving environment. We also want to make sure that you are getting the best fit for your lifestyle and family. Please remember that you may have a fantastic home to offer a dog, but the dog you first apply for may not be the right fit for your circumstance. Don't be discouraged! It is our mission to find you the best possible match for you and the dog and if you are patient, we will do our best to get you the right fit with either our rescue or another reputable rescue. We want to save as many lives as we can but the appropriate due diligence has to be taken in order to accomplish this.

A responsible rescue should never guilt you into adopting a dog for any reason at all or force you to take a dog that you do not feel is a fit. This is how dogs end up back in the system and our objective is to avoid this at all costs. Remember, if a rescue is in a rush to get any dog to go home with you, you must ask yourself what their motivation is?

When you adopt you're making a commitment to provide a lifetime of needs for a dog that may or may not have been through a very traumatic experience. Not always, but sometimes these experiences can leave the animal with special needs that can last the duration of its lifetime. That's not to say that you won't be able to give and receive love from this animal, but it should be something that you take the time to consider before adopting. Adopting should never be a spur of the moment decision. We know how heartbreaking it can be to hear of the unthinkable situations that these animals have had to endure, or to see their sad eyes staring up at you, but never the less, this alone should never be your motivation for adopting a dog. Try to stay objective and remind yourself that if you don't find the right dog today it's okay. It's better for you and the dog if you don't rush into the wrong decision. We will keep your application on file until you find the right dog!

We are DEDICATED TO DACHSHUNDS and other small dogs .. Our goal is to find these dogs a loving home forever home .
DOXIE & FRIENDS RESCUE dogs come from many situations, dogs are injured and their owners cannot afford or provide appropriate care, sometimes dogs are used solely as breeding vessels and are tossed aside when they are no longer useful, families sometimes under-estimate what dog ownership requires and from high kill shelters.

Adoption Policy

DOXIE & FRIENDS RESCUE always has the best interest of the dog at heart. We feel it is our responsibility to place them in the best homes that will not only provide them with love, but ones that are a match .

We acquire an application to be filled out .
Please know that we are not trying to judge anyone's lifestyle. We only want to ensure that these dogs ,(many of whom have already had a difficult life ) find the very best homes where they can live their years in healthy, safe and loving environments.

In order to protect our rescues, all adopters will be required to sign an adoption contract .

With every life that is rescued, DOXIE & FRIENDS RESCUE takes responsibility for their placement. For any reason you can no longer care for your adopted dog the dog MUST be returned to DOXIE & FRIENDS RESCUE so that we can find another home.  Adopters may not search for placement on their own .

We do not offer "refunds" as any monies paid are a donation and not a "payment for goods and/or services". However, if you are a qualified candidate, we will offer an exchange for another dog if appropriate.
