Meet Vinnie

Vinnie is a big boy. He is also a big lovable boy. From his foster Mom, "Life with Vinnie

I discovered pretty early on that the way to Vinnie’s heart was through his stomach. He is very food motivated. I think that he did not alway have enough food. When I bring his breakfast and dinner salad he will always grab the top piece and take off running to go eat it elsewhere. Once he eats that piece he will return to finish the rest of his salad and his pellets.

Vinnie knows where his treats are and also know the sound of the treat container opening or his pellet bag crinkling. This makes it extremely easy to bring him back to his pen if needed.
When I am getting a treat for him he is right at my feet and will stand on his hind legs with his front paws on my leg begging. Worse than a dog. Haha. He also likes to jump up on the bed and if he thinks I have a treat then he will stand on his hind feet with his front paws on my chest. He also has no qualms about jumping onto my lap if he thinks he will be rewarded with food. He is pretty hard to resist. I usually have a blanket on my lap because sometimes he likes to nibble my pants.

Vinnie is very well behaved when he is out and about. He has not proven to be a digger or a chewer. I have cord protectors and he has tried to nibble on those but determined pretty quickly he didn’t like them. What he has tried to chew numerous times is my cell phone case which is a soft rubber type material. He also has liked to chew on some envelopes when I was writing some cards. Putting his personal touch on them!

His litter box habits are terrific! He does not even get that much hay out of his litter box.
I put a small blanket underneath his litter box that is also big enough for him to chew his wicker baskets on. This makes it a snap to do a quick clean up of his pen. I just shake the smaller blanket. It makes it a lot easier.

Vinnie seems to like his routine. I always call out to him before I enter his room and when I open the door he is always right there in his pen eager for me to feed him and let him out. When I let him out in the morning after he has eaten breakfast he likes to be pet for a while before exploring. Sometimes he will run around and thump his feet. It does seem like he is trying to communicate that he wants a treat. In the evening after he has been out and has enjoyed his after dinner munching on his hay he will always do a giant flop on his side. So cute to see him so relaxed happy.

He is expressive in other ways too. He has no problem nudging me for attention. He loves his pets (particularly cheek rubs!) and will stay for quite some time right next to me enjoying this attention. He grinds his teeth in pleasure.

He has not been around other animals since being in my care. I am not sure how he would do.

He is not overly sensitive to noise but my home and where he stays is fairly quiet. I have noticed certain noises that he Does Not like! A hissing like sound (sssss) scared him recently and he thumped his feet and ran away. Because of this being close to a kitchen may not be ideal for him. We spend each evening listening to music.

As far as his activity level he is a good balance.
Sometimes he will do some fast zoomed but normally just hops around. If he sees me heading towards where I keep his treats he runs so fast over to see me. He is very smart and likes attention and his time being fed and showered with love and pets. He is a great companion and seems like he would make a good free roam bunny."
