Named after the movie for his fighting spirit, this sweet rabbit was found as a stray and transferred to SDHRS. He's estimated to be around 8 years old - thin, frail, and clearly an older gentleman. When he first arrived at the local shelter, he was severely underweight and covered in feces - a heartbreaking sign of how much he had been struggling.
It's suspected that Rocky has dental issues and arthritis, adding to the challenges he's already faced. He was also diagnosed with E. cuniculi and placed on a regimen of medication. Despite everything, he continues to show incredible resilience and the gentlest spirit.
Rocky is now in a loving foster home where he's doted on and cared for with all the tenderness he deserves. We'll be having him checked by an ophthalmologist soon and getting him started with VOM therapy to help support his comfort and mobility.
Rocky's forever home will need to understand and be prepared to manage his ongoing medical care needs. With the right attention, patience, and love, this special boy will continue to thrive and enjoy the comfort he's fought so hard to find.
Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious and deadly disease that affects both wild and domestic rabbits. The virus is causing deaths in rabbits and hares native to North America and is spreading rapidly. In addition to detection of RHDV2 in wild cottontail rabbits and jackrabbits, RHDV2 has been confirmed in domestic rabbits on 50 premises, including a detection in a feral domestic rabbit. Please make sure to vaccinate your rabbits every year. For more information, please visit our website at: https://sandiegorabbits.org/education/rhdv
