Illegal Dog Fighting Arrests


Humane Society at Lollypop Farm’s Director of Field Services Sandy Christianson accompanied the New York State Police on an illegal dog fighting investigation in Princetown, New York on Tuesday, January 29th. Thomas and Christine Provencher of 1374 Weast Road in Princetown face felony charges of Animal Fighting, Training with Intent to Fight, and criminal possession of Marijuana.

The arrests were the result of an ongoing dog fighting investigation initiated by Christianson. 13 dogs were seized at the property and are now in the care of Humane Society officials. Numerous items related to animal fighting were also seized from the Provencher’s home, including underground fighting videos and magazines, records related to fighting and selling of dogs, hypodermic needles, blood stained carpet, parting sticks and treadmills. Police also seized over 2 pounds of marijuana and nearly $23,000 in cash.

The Provencher’s own a pet store, Pet Platter Inc. in Rotterdam. A search warrant was executed at this location as well. The couple is being held in Schenectady County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

In addition to Sandy Christianson, the State Police were accompanied by individuals from the Animal Protection Foundation of Schenectady and the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society.
