Cockfighting Suspect Raided

The Humane Society at Lollypop Farm Animal Cruelty Investigators raided the farm of Miguel DeJesus at 157 Rte. 441 in Walworth yesterday, seizing 68 roosters and hens suspected of being involved in cockfighting. Investigators confiscated numerous items commonly associated with cockfighting, including training paraphernalia, supplements and medications.

The raid is the result of an ongoing investigation by Animal Cruelty Investigator Ron Storm. The penalty for animal fighting is up to a $25,000 fine and/or 4 years in jail. In 1995, DeJesus also faced felony charges for Permitting Animal Fighting on his property in Genesee County.

The chickens will be held at Lollypop Farm until the court matter is settled.

Any information regarding animal fighting, cruelty and neglect should be reported to the animal cruelty hotline at (716) 223-6500. Calls are treated confidentially and rewards are available for information about animal fighting that leads to an arrest.
