Huckleberry Golden Retriever & Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Houston, TX

Hi there, my name is Huckleberry! Me and the character Huckleberry Finn have a lot in common: homelessness, hunger, and hearts of gold. But while Huck Finn already had Tom Sawyer for a best friend, I'm still looking for mine! I'm a very smart little guy, and even I knew that living on the streets was no place for a puppy to grow up! So I found a house where a REDCOLLAR RESCUE volunteer lived and I waited until she came outside. Then I did my best to wag my tail and look my cutest, and wouldn't you know, my clever plan worked! I was off to the vet where I was neutered and vaccinated and given a bath.

I am about 10-12 months old and am a beautiful golden retriever/yellow lab mix. I can be a little rambunctious, owing to my age, but when you pet me, I get calm and still and I just want to make that great feeling of being loved last forever. I am friendly with other dogs and would love a doggy friend who wants to romp and play with me. But I love humans too and would be content with them as my best friends as well. An ideal home for me would be able to patiently teach me my puppy manners and spend time making sure that I get good exercise so I can grow up strong and healthy. I'm currently about 45 lbs, but I'm still a growing boy and I may get up to 50-60 lbs when I'm filled out. Because of my breeds, I love to play fetch and go running with my family. Although I haven't met any kids yet, I'll probably be good with them too, because I'm so friendly. I'd definitely be someone's best friend for life - loyal and attentive and loving. Oh, one more thing, I'm deaf. But I don't let that slow me down one bit - cuz I'm so smart, I am already learning hand signals and am very engaged with what is going on around me. As a matter of fact, you won't even notice when you meet me, and I'm very good at making eye contact!
