THIS LONELY GIRL REALLY NEEDS YOUR HELP!
 Thinking of
adopting, but not sure?  This beautiful girl is presently in paid boarding, and
hoping someone might open their home to her short-term as a foster family!
You can make a difference by (a) getting her out of the kennel and into
an environment where she will know the love of a family or special person while
she waits for her "forever home" (b) helping Northern Lights save rescue funds
being spent on boarding (this will allow us to help other dogs) and (c) making
space to save another "death row" shelter dog from being euthanized.  If
you are interested in hearing more, just
EMAIL US and note "FOSTERING"
in your subject line for an immediate response!  And by the way, if you
are an approved foster and happen to fall in love along the way, we will be
happy to turn that foster contract into an ADOPTION contract for you :)

About  ROXIE:
Roxie is a beautiful 8-month-old puppy whose story touched our heart.
OH-SO-PRETTY
Roxie
is -- we believe -- possibly
a Sheltie/Husky mix.  She is almost full grown and is still on the small
side (by our standards).  She has a more delicate build than we see in
Huskies. Roxie is all puppy -- VERY playful, squirmy, and SO happy when she gets
a break from boarding!  She loves to flop in your lap (as shown in her
photo album on Webshots) and just seems to love EVERYBODY, two legs, four legs,
any age.  This little cute-as-a-button gal absolutely stole our hearts! We
got the following email from a trusted rescue associate in southeast Ohio.
"Please excuse the photos as the pound staff people
don't have time to take pictures. They are available to talk with potential
adopters, though, and would love to help dogs get homes. This girl is listed
primarily as a German Shepherd Dog because that is what her temperament is like,
although she is also very energetic. She is OK with cats and other dogs and
people.  She is a gorgeous little girl who is already spayed. She
apparently escaped a lot in her previous home but makes no attempt to get over
or under the 4 ft fence at the pound, so we assume the problem was the owner,
not Roxie.    She is very playful and was probably very lonely.  This
sweetie is EXTRA friendly and is good with Labradors and some small dogs.
She also lived with cats in her former home and  was scared of a cat that hissed at her but showed
some cautious interest/chase instinct at a cat that ran from her.   She
sounds just like a Sibe but has the rear angulation and build of a small
German Shepherd.  Roxie is already spayed and up to date on her
vaccinations"
Roxie started out in temporary foster pending transport to Indiana.  Her foster
mom shared the following:  "She's
a medium sized girl -- tall but lightly built now, very active but learns
very quickly.  She is sensitive and responsive, like a herding breed.  She
is SUCH a fun girl and has learned to play here with other dogs.   She eats
side by side with other dogs without aggression and overall is very
submissive.   Once she gains confidence she should be a wonderful girl for
mushing, dog sports or just jogging.  She is also content to have to share
attention (I have several fosters) but will TRULY SHINE with someone who can
let her learn tricks or obedience.
Roxie's

Foster Mom Says:
Roxie needs a foster or forever home.  She's just 30-35 pounds of furry
love -- can YOU open your home and heart to her?

This
dog's adoption donation is $225. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain!
This dog has had a complete health exam, has already been altered (spayed or
neutered), is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites.
What to do if you want to
adopt this dog: Just SEND AN EMAIL to request an adoption application!
We will review your application to determine if there is a good match
between your family and this dog.  We may suggest another if we can offer a
better fit in terms of lifestyle, experience, other pets, etc. A vet check, reference checks, and a home visit will be conducted before an adoption can be considered for approval.
NOTE:
In the vast majority of cases, the dogs in our program are rescued from
shelters, and Northern Lights has no means by which to collect or verify a dog's
history.  We work in concert with our veterinarians, and breed and age
estimates are based on a combination of professional input and our collective
experience.  Our policy with information acquired while the dogs are in our
care is that of "full disclosure".  It is our goal to ensure the
adopter has all available information to ensure the best possible match between
the dog and the adopting person or family.  In some instances, because of
applicant interest, dogs are in our program for relatively brief periods of
time.  If we have identified a temperament or health condition while the
dog is in our care and custody, every effort will be made to correct it prior to
adoption OR the adopter will be made aware of the
issue or condition prior to adoption.  Northern Lights' screening process
is designed to select only adopters who are willing, and have the means, to
treat conditions which may occur after adoption, and adopter will be
contractually responsible for doing so.
NORTHERN
LIGHTS IS NOT A SHELTER. We are a rescue comprised of individuals who open their private homes to
foster dogs in need of a second chance.
