G’day, mates! I’m Piper. How about if we throw some spuds on the barbie?
I’m three years old, weigh 30-35 lbs. and I’m a mixture of Australian shepherd/cattle dog with a dash of collie and a splash of Chihuahua. Australian shepherds and cattle dogs are both herders. They are high energy and do best with a job. They require lots of exercise and training. I did not get a lot of training or socialization as a puppy.
I’m affectionate, very family oriented, and leery of strangers. I like to hang around with my people doing whatever they are doing. I would prefer a forever home where someone is around most of the time. I don’t like being locked in a kennel for long periods of time. Kennels are for sleeping or eating.
I love toys: soft toys, squeaky toys, chew toys, balls, treats, chasing balls, sometimes retrieving balls, walks, and car rides. My foster mom thinks I might like agility; I am quick to learn new things and enjoy the challenge. Aussies, lacking a job or extensive exercise may become bored, destructive, and loud. Or I might invent my own job, such as herding the little kids or chasing cars. I’m athletic, energetic, and love to run, so I want a big, fenced yard. Or maybe live on a farm? With cattle? I have five foster sisters whom I like to pester. Sometimes I get carried away, and then there’s a squabble. Cats are for chasing.
I don’t like cars, bicycles, golf carts, trucks, joggers, or anything else that goes whizzing by. I am a herder/protector by nature. I sometimes overreact; with your loving help I can continue learning good manners.
