It’s officially that time! Hope (who actually knows Vona, Icelandic word for Hope) is available for adoption. If you remember Hope a couple months back this gal came into HART definitely needing that HART love. Hope was found at the side of the road with a broken leg in three places. A piece of the bone was removed causing Hope’s leg to be a bit shorter than her others. In addition HART and the rescue vet gave Hope top notch treatment including laser theory.

It’s hard to believe Hope’s before and after pic, but yes that is her. Hope deserves the best in life and it’s clear that she hasn’t always had that. No worries for Hope though she has the HART’s of everyone she meets.

Hope is a very friendly girl that loves any attention she is given. She will curl up next to you or stretch out on the couch for her afternoon nap. Out of the crate Hope is a pretty quiet gal and loves to explore the foster's house.

Hope is fostered with several dogs and has done well with all sizes. She is a bit protective of herself though and if a dog comes up to her while she is on the couch or in her crate she will growl a bit and project forward. This is easily projected but Hope most likely did not have good experiences with dogs and probably had to fend for herself when interacting in her past life. The other pups in the home are very understanding and nonreactive if Hope though because they trust foster mom’s leadership that Hope’s behavior will not extend past what she is doing. For that reason Hope will do best as an only dog or with doggies who have similar behaviors as the ones she lives with now, nonreactive and understanding.

Although Hope is estimated between a year to two years she has very puppy like behaviors. She can get very excited quickly and crashes quickly, she can be a bit mouthy but it honestly does not hurt at all and definitely is not a bite. When she settles down this behavior is not prevalent. Our assessment is Hope was not given much attention when younger. Hope is working on her potty training and doing well but still needs encouragement.

As far as Hope’s leg goes she has completely healed and we are working now on getting her to use the leg. Some physical in-home stretches are helping encourage that. She is also finishing up a round of pain meds that help as well. Hope is beginning to touch down with the leg so that will be a slower process.

Hope is a small girl at about 25 pounds. We are calling her a lab mix but that is a pure guess as labs are usually a bit larger. She is estimated between 1-2 years. She would do best in a house as she can be barky in the crate and a bit loud for an apartment.

Hope is ready for the next chapter of her life to begin. She has done great hanging out at her foster home for the last couple months healing so that she can now find her furever home.
