Meet Sasha

Sasha is 9 years old and weighs 65 pounds.

Have you noticed the sleek coat of fur and that adorable face?? That's me – Sasha the boxer mix. Not sure what I'm mixed with, but it all came out gorgeous, nes't pas?

I am sweet, kind, gentle, loving, easy to get along with. My, it sounds like a description from a dating site. I wouldn't mind meeting that dog – oh wait, it's me!
I get along with lots of creatures including: giraffes, elephants, spiders, cats and so forth. OK, did you notice the category "dog" wasn't included? It isn't that I dislike them; I am just really nervous when another dog comes up to me. I show my nervousness by growling. I am not aggressive---I just feel threatened for some reason. I wish I could explain why this is so, but I cannot so I will probably do better in a home with me as the only dog for now. I am sure I could learn to get along with another friend if that situation occurs.

Other great things about me (like that wasn't enough), is that I know lots of commands and actually respond to them. I can do: SIT, STAY, SHAKE, LAY DOWN, NO and EASY. Never been totally sure what EASY means to humans. So when they say I just act all calm and easy-going and stop whatever I'm doing and look lovingly into their eyes – they like that. Then they give me a treat, and I like that. So it all works out well for everyone involved! Lots of those commands seem dumb and weird to me, but earthlings seem to enjoy them so why not? Anything that gets me a treat. WARNING: I use the same paw to SHAKE with that I use to indicate PET ME you fool. Oh well........before I forget – it's good quality soft treats that really make me look lovingly into your eyes. That's important to remember.

I adore walks, but they have to be slow as I am a bit creaky in the hips; however, I have been less creaky the more walks I take. Soon I will be a sleek hound capable of leaping tall buildings in a single bound. Disclaimer on my part (though I hate to say it); I am slightly overweight so you need to be strong about not giving me lots of treats. If I lose some weight I feel my hips might be happier. OK, enough said on that prickly subject. That's probably the reason too that it takes me a while to settle in at night. But now that I have this incredibly cozy dog bed it is a lot easier to get a good night's rest. It is coming with me wherever I go. No one is taking that piece of furniture away from me. I think also that it might be easier to be in a house with just a few steps so I don't have to strain these old hip joints too much.

I do love my cuddly toys and snuggling up with the humans. My foster mom says that if you start to pet me you had better not have much else to do for awhile, because that's my favorite thing – being petted. Just make a long phone call, like sitting on hold with the phone company or some government agency, and then I know I will have a long pet – hahaha. I don't need a lot of space, like a big yard or anything to make me happy--once I have had my walks I am happy to snuggle into some corner of the house and sleep!

Even though I love my foster mom, I yearn for a forever home. I was with my last human man all my life – since I was a puppy. It makes me very sad to know that he is sick and can no longer care for me. I know I would do well with a human who can spend lots of time with me and is familiar with larger dogs. Small kids are probably not a great idea as they tend to prod and poke and I don't really like that--I mean--who does? I await, with great eagerness, the person who wants magic in their life. That's ME.

INTERESTED in SASHA? The first step is to fill out our online Adoption Application (address link below)

NOTE: All of our dogs live in foster homes so it is not possible to setup a meet and greet prior to submitting an adoption application. Filling out an application doesn't obligate you to adopt, but it does save your place in line if there are multiple people interested.

ADOPTION APPLICATION (Type or cut & paste the below website address into your browser): http://www.sdroregon.com/adoption-application.htm

If our Adoption Coordinator determines you are a good match they will contact you. This is a great opportunity for you to find out more about SASHA and decide if you would like to setup a meet and greet.

ADOPTION FEE is $150, and there’s a 10% Discount for Senior Citizens and Veterans.

Learn more about the ADOPTION PROCESS here (Type or cut & paste the below website address into your browser): http://www.sdroregon.com/adoption-process.htm

We apologize, but we are not able to answer individual questions about our dogs. We are a small, all-volunteer organization and we receive hundreds of inquiries. If you want to learn more about a particular dog, then please submit an Adoption Application. If your application is chosen, you will have the opportunity to meet the dog and to get answers to all of your questions. Thank you for your understanding.
